"A New Convergence"
Part 38
Emma's eyes began to open, and she was immediately greeted by the sight of Natalie's head resting on her lap. Natalie's low-cut top seemed to be accentuating her curves, even in sleep. Emma smiled softly, feeling a gentle affection for her partner. As she sat up, Emma's mind began to collect the events that had happened in her life. She thought about her relationships, her friends, and her adventures. It was as if she was piecing together a puzzle, and the more she remembered, the more she realized that her life had taken a drastic turn. Her gaze drifted to the two figures that had been shadowing her every move. A tall man with a large afro caught her eye, and Emma's memories began to stir. She had seen him before, but where? The man's face seemed familiar, yet she couldn't quite place him. Next to him stood a short southeast Asian girl, and Emma's eyes widened as recognition dawned. "Myra," Emma whispered under her breath. It had been years since they'd last spoken, and Emma had often wondered what had become of her. In her mind's eye, Emma recalled Myra as the cheerfully annoying shipper who'd always try to pair her with Luis or vice versa. Emma had found it endearing at the time, but she'd never expected their paths to cross again. And yet, here Myra was, standing alongside the afro-sporting man. As Emma's gaze flicked to the tall man, she remembered him now. He was Doc, the disco-loving man with a flair for the dramatic. Emma's eyes sparkled with amusement as she recalled Myra's relationship with Doc. Who would have thought that Myra, the girl who'd once been so fixated on Emma's love life, would end up with Doc? The memories came flooding back, and Emma felt a pang of nostalgia. She and Myra had been friends in high school, bonding over their shared experiences and supporting each other through thick and thin. Emma had always valued their friendship, even if Myra's constant shipping had been a bit much at times. Now, as Emma watched Myra and Doc standing together, she wondered what had brought them to this point. Were they here to stop her? Or was there something more at play? Emma's eyes narrowed, her mind racing with possibilities. Natalie stirred in her lap, and Emma gently stroked her hair. "Hey, sleepyhead," Emma whispered, trying to keep her voice low. Natalie's eyes fluttered open, and she smiled up at Emma. "Hey," Natalie replied, her voice husky with sleep. "What's going on?" Emma's gaze drifted back to Myra and Doc, her eyes locked on the pair. "I think we have company," Emma said, her voice laced with a hint of mischief.
