Chapter 7: Dance Preparations

Part 7

The sun rising on the day of the dance shone a brilliant light into Usagi’s room, bathing the space in a golden hue that matched her excitement. It was finally here—the day they had all been waiting for. Usagi and Rei had spent the morning on the phone, their chatter a flurry of planning that set an upbeat tone for the day. "Okay, Usagi! Are you ready for a day of glitz, glam, and girl time?" Rei exclaimed as she buzzed through the front door, a bag full of accessories slung over her shoulder. Usagi squealed, her own bag by her side. "I can’t wait! We’re going to have so much fun!" They giggled as they dove into a sea of sequins, beads, and floral patterns, spreading the pieces across Usagi’s bed. They were joined soon after by their friend Naru, who arrived with a cheerful energy that added to the atmosphere. Naru balanced a sparkling clutch on her arm and showcased a lovely, light blue dress that made her complexion glow. "Look what I found!" she announced, her eyes shining with enthusiasm. "I thought the dance would be the perfect chance to wear this!" "You look gorgeous, Naru!" Usagi exclaimed, hugging her tightly. "Thanks! I can’t believe we’re finally going to the dance together!" Before long, the trio was laughing, sharing stories and suggestions about hairstyles and makeup. The energy in the room was electric, filled with the kind of joyful anticipation that could almost be touched—a prelude to the excitement of the night ahead. Meanwhile, on the other side of town, Makoto and Luigi were preparing for the evening too. Makoto was straightening her hair in front of the mirror, stealing glances at the muscular little plumber who was adjusting his hat, his gloves surprisingly pristine as he prepped for the night. "How do I look, Luigi?" Makoto asked, her heart fluttering with excitement. Luigi turned, a big grin replacing his usual bashful demeanor. "You look like a princess!" he replied, his Italian accent softening the compliment. "I’m lucky to have you as my date!" The compliment made Makoto blush. "Thanks! I think I’ll take you to a pizza place after the dance to celebrate!" As the clock ticked down toward the dance, the girls continued their extreme makeover in Usagi’s room. They experimented with hairdos—Usagi decided on loose curls adorned by delicate flowers, while Rei opted for an elegant updo accentuated by shimmering pins. Naru played with hairpieces and bangles, the three of them creating a magical space where every brush stroke and clip of the hair held promise. Time flew, and soon they heard a series of knocks surprising the trio. "Hey guys, we’re here!" they heard Makoto’s voice as she opened the door, waving Luigi in beside her. "Wow! Everyone looks amazing!" Makoto boomed with genuine admiration, stepping into the room with Luigi. His green eyes sparkled as he took in the vibrant atmosphere. Usagi twirled in her red gown, laughter bubbling from her. "Just wait until you see the shoes!" "I knew you’d be fabulous!" Makoto replied, checking out the mix of colors and styles. "Luigi and I brought snacks—" she gestured toward a basket filled with nibbles. "—we figured we’d fuel this frenzy with some cheesy goodness before the dance!" "You guys are the best!" Naru said, clapping her hands together in excitement. "Let’s finish getting ready and then have a little snack party before heading out!" The girls cheered as Luigi set the basket on the bed. The scent of garlic bread and marinara sauce filled the air, and laughter erupted as they all dug in. As they snacked, they shared their hopes for the evening, each one dreaming of unforgettable moments on the dance floor and the stories they would carry long after the glitter had settled. Rei turned to Usagi, her eyes sparkling. "Are you ready for this? I can’t believe it’s finally happening!" "Absolutely! I wouldn't imagine doing it with anyone else but you!" Usagi beamed, causing Rei’s heart to flutter. In the swirl of laughter, lipstick, and gorgeous outfits, the night was shaping up to be something more than just an evening of dancing—it was a celebration of friendship, love, and the shimmering possibilities of youth.
