Sick and Tired
Part 1
The humid Miami air clung to Dorothy like a damp shroud, suffocating her with its familiarity. She trudged through the front door of the house she shared with her friends, dropping her purse on the floor with a defeated thud. The past few months had been a blur of monotony, with every day blending into the next like a never-ending cycle of drudgery. As she made her way to the kitchen, she couldn't help but feel like she was stuck in a rut. Rose, Blanche, and Sophia were already gathered in the kitchen, each with their own unique brand of exhaustion etched on their faces. Rose was slumped over the counter, her eyes fixed on a cup of coffee as if it held the secrets of the universe. Blanche was flipping through a magazine, her brow furrowed in concentration, while Sophia sat at the table, her arms crossed and a scowl on her face. "I'm telling you, girls," Dorothy said, pouring herself a glass of wine, "we need a break. A real break, not just a weekend getaway to the beach." Blanche looked up, her eyes sparkling with interest. "I couldn't agree more, dear. I'm starting to feel like I'm going stir-crazy." Sophia snorted, her Sicilian accent thick and rich. "Stir-crazy? You think you're stir-crazy? I'm the one who's been stuck in this house with you three for years. I'm the one who needs a vacation." Rose smiled, her eyes lighting up with excitement. "I've been thinking about that, Sophia. I was browsing through a travel brochure the other day, and I found this amazing resort in the Caribbean. It looks like paradise." The room fell silent as the girls considered the idea. Dorothy felt a spark of excitement ignite within her, and she couldn't help but think of the luxurious amenities and crystal-clear waters that Rose had described. "Why not?" Dorothy said finally, a grin spreading across her face. "Let's do it. We can take a week, or two, or... who cares? We can take as long as we want." The girls cheered, and Sophia tossed her hands up in the air. "I'm in. When do we leave?" As they began to make plans, Dorothy couldn't shake the feeling that this vacation was exactly what they all needed – a chance to escape the monotony of their daily lives and rediscover themselves in a beautiful, sun-kissed setting. Little did she know, this trip would be the catalyst for a series of events that would change their lives forever. The conversation flowed easily, with the girls discussing everything from the resort's amenities to their favorite activities. As they chatted, Dorothy felt her exhaustion melting away, replaced by a sense of excitement and anticipation. She couldn't wait to leave Miami behind and start their Caribbean adventure. With their plans set in motion, the girls clinked their glasses together in a toast. "To our well-deserved vacation," Dorothy said, smiling at her friends. "To new beginnings," Blanche added, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "To relaxation and rejuvenation," Rose chimed in, her voice filled with hope. Sophia just rolled her eyes, a wry smile spreading across her face. "To getting out of this house without killing each other." The girls laughed, and the tension in the room dissipated, replaced by a sense of camaraderie and shared excitement for their upcoming adventure. As they sipped their wine and continued to make plans, Dorothy felt a sense of freedom wash over her, and she knew that this vacation was going to be just what the doctor ordered.
