**Chapter 18: New Beginnings**
Part 18
The car ride home was a blur for Ashley, her mind still reeling with thoughts of motherhood and all the responsibilities that came with it. Sarah drove, chatting occasionally with Kody, who was sleeping in his car seat, while Ashley sat in the passenger seat, her eyes fixed on the rearview mirror. As they pulled into the driveway, Ashley felt a mix of emotions. She was excited to start this new chapter of her life, but she was also nervous about being on her own with Kody. What if she forgot to feed him? What if she didn't know how to soothe him when he cried? Sarah seemed to sense Ashley's anxiety and put a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "You're going to be great, Ash," she said. "Just remember, I'm just a phone call away." Ashley smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude towards her friend. She knew that she could always count on Sarah to be there for her. As they entered the house, Ashley was struck by how quiet it was. The hospital had been a flurry of activity, with nurses and doctors coming and going at all hours. But here, in her own home, it was peaceful and still. Sarah helped Ashley get settled, putting away the bags of clothes and supplies that the hospital had sent home with them. Ashley sat down on the couch, Kody still sleeping in her arms, and looked around the room. Everything seemed different now, as if she was seeing it all for the first time. Sarah sat down beside her, putting a hand on her knee. "Do you need anything, Ash?" she asked. Ashley shook her head, feeling a sense of contentment wash over her. "I'm good," she said. "Just need to get used to being home, I think." Sarah nodded and stood up. "I'll leave you two alone for now," she said. "But don't hesitate to call me if you need anything. I'm just a phone call away." Ashley watched as Sarah left, feeling a sense of gratitude towards her friend. She looked down at Kody, who was still sleeping peacefully in her arms. She gently stroked his hair, feeling a sense of love and wonder. As she sat there, Ashley felt a sense of calm wash over her. She was home, and she was ready to start this new chapter of her life with Kody. She took a deep breath, feeling a sense of excitement and anticipation for what the future held.
