Chapter 1: A Quiet Night at the Bar

Part 1

The dimly lit bar, aptly named "The Red Griffin", was a haven for those seeking refuge from the bustling streets of Seven Haven. Jenna Eversong polished a mug with a white apron, her long, curly brown hair tied back in a ponytail as she moved with practiced ease behind the counter. She had worked at The Red Griffin for three years, and in that time, she had grown accustomed to the warm atmosphere and the familiar faces of the regulars. Despite her shy nature, Jenna had a way of making everyone feel at home, and the patrons adored her for it. As the night wore on, the bar began to fill with a mix of locals and travelers. Jenna exchanged quiet pleasantries with the regulars, her voice barely above a whisper. She was a listener, not a talker, and she preferred it that way. The sounds of laughter and clinking glasses created a soothing background hum, and Jenna felt at peace. Just as she was about to pour a drink for a thirsty customer, the door swung open and a tall, imposing figure walked in. His black leather jacket and rugged appearance immediately drew attention, and the patrons couldn't help but stare. Jenna's eyes widened as she took in the sight of the stranger's spiky black hair and the scar above his left eyebrow. The man, Cloud Strife, scanned the room with a practiced air of caution. His eyes, a piercing blue, seemed to bore into every corner of the bar before finally coming to rest on the barkeep. He strode over to the counter, his movements fluid and confident. "Whiskey, neat," Cloud said, his deep voice commanding attention. Jenna's eyes fluttered to his face, and she felt a flush rise to her cheeks. She nodded, trying to play it cool, and reached for the whiskey bottle. As she poured his drink, Cloud's gaze roamed the bar, taking in the eclectic decor and the lively atmosphere. His eyes lingered on the patrons, sizing them up, before returning to Jenna. "You new around here?" Cloud asked, his tone neutral. Jenna shook her head, her voice barely above a whisper. "No, I've been working here for three years." Cloud nodded, his expression unreadable. "The Red Griffin, huh? I've heard of it. It's got a good reputation." Jenna smiled, feeling a little more at ease. "Yeah, it's a great place. What brings you to Seven Haven?" Cloud's eyes narrowed, and he leaned in, his voice dropping to a low tone. "Just passing through. I'm here for a job." Jenna's curiosity was piqued, but she didn't press the issue. She slid the whiskey across the counter, and Cloud took a sip, his eyes never leaving hers. The sound of raucous laughter and clinking glasses filled the air, but Jenna felt a sense of unease, as if Cloud's presence had stirred up something that had been simmering just beneath the surface. She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but she had a feeling that this stranger was going to change things in Seven Haven, and in her life, forever.
