Transformation Complete

Part 8

The man's eyes narrowed as he gazed at Lyra, his expression disapproving. "Still not enough," he muttered to himself, waving his wand in a swift motion. Lyra felt a strange tingling sensation wash over her, as if her very cells were being rearranged. She looked down to see her hair transforming into coarse, curly locks that sprang out from her scalp in every direction. She reached up to touch her new hair, her fingers recoiling in surprise. The man handed her a pair of thick, black-rimmed glasses, which she hesitantly put on. Her eyes adjusted to the new lenses, and she gazed at her reflection in a nearby mirror. Her skin had darkened to a warm olive tone, and her features had been subtly altered. But that was only the beginning. The man's wand danced through the air, leaving a trail of tiny, glowing marks on Lyra's skin. She watched in horror as pimples and moles erupted across her face and arms, and scars sliced across her cheeks and forehead. "¡Ay, caramba!" Lyra exclaimed, her voice thick with a sudden Spanish accent. She stumbled backward, shocked and dismayed by her new appearance. The men around her burst out laughing, their masks glinting with amusement. "Ah, perfect!" one of them choked out, wiping tears from his eyes. "You're almost unrecognizable!" Lyra's eyes flashed with anger, but the man who had cast the spell simply shrugged. "Sorry, Kael," he said. "But this is for your own protection. The Umbra will be looking for you, and we need to make sure you're well-hidden." She stumbled forward, her fingers probing her new face. "What's... what's happened to me?" she stammered, her accent thick and foreign. The man's grin faltered for a moment, before he replied, "You're now completely and utterly transformed, Kael. This... " he waved his hand at her, "is your new life. And don't worry, it's all permanent." Lyra's eyes went wide, and she let out a strangled cry. The men laughed again, their amusement echoing off the walls. She spun around, her gaze wild and desperate, searching for some way to reverse the changes that had been wrought upon her. But it was too late. She was Kael now, a stranger in a strange land, with a new face and a new voice. And she had no idea how to get back to who she used to be.
