**Chapter 14: Safe Haven**
Part 14
As I pulled the car up to the cabin, a sense of relief washed over me. The nurse and Dr. Lee quickly helped Tokyo out of the backseat, supporting her as she stumbled and staggered. I could see the exhaustion and pain etched on her face, and my heart went out to her. We had to get her inside and comfortable, and fast. The cabin's door creaked open, and a figure stood silhouetted in the warm glow of the interior light. I couldn't make out their features, but they beckoned us inside. Dr. Lee stepped forward, her eyes scanning the surroundings before she nodded and followed the figure into the cabin. The nurse and I supported Tokyo, helping her up the creaky steps and into the cozy interior. The cabin was small, with a fireplace crackling in the center of the room. The air was thick with the scent of wood smoke and baking. A woman, probably in her mid-fifties, with a kind face and a messy bob of curly brown hair, greeted us with a warm smile. "Welcome, you must be freezing," she said, ushering us toward a worn couch. "I'm Maya, I've been expecting you." Dr. Lee introduced us, and Maya quickly got to work, helping the nurse clean up Tokyo's vomit-stained clothes and settling her onto the couch with a warm blanket. I watched, feeling a mix of relief and wariness, as Maya moved with a quiet efficiency, her eyes taking in every detail. As Tokyo settled in, Maya handed her a steaming cup of tea. "Drink this, it will help soothe your stomach," she said gently. Tokyo took a sip, her eyes closing in rapture as the warmth spread through her body. The nurse and Dr. Lee exchanged a look of relief, and I could see the tension in their bodies begin to ease. Maya turned to me, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "So, tell me, what brings you all here? Dr. Lee said you were in a bit of a situation." I hesitated, unsure how much to reveal. But something about Maya's kind, gentle demeanor put me at ease. I took a deep breath and began to recount our story, leaving out no details. As I spoke, I noticed Maya's expression change from curiosity to concern. She nodded, her eyes locked on mine, and I could see the wheels turning in her mind. When I finished, the room fell silent. Dr. Lee spoke up, her voice low and urgent. "We need to get Tokyo settled in, and then we can discuss our next move. The watcher is still out there, and we can't let our guard down." Maya nodded, her face set in determination. "You're safe here, for now. But I have a feeling that won't last long. We'll need to come up with a plan, and fast." As we settled in for the night, I couldn't shake the feeling that we were being watched, that the darkness outside was waiting for its chance to strike. I glanced at Tokyo, who was slowly drifting off to sleep, and knew that we had to do everything in our power to keep her safe. But as I looked around the cabin, I noticed something that made my heart skip a beat – a small, hidden camera in the corner of the room, its lens trained on us.
