A Kingdom in Crisis

Part 4

A few days had passed since Link's collapse, and he was now lying on his back, his vision and hearing restored, but a new set of problems had arisen. He grimaced in discomfort as he shifted his position, trying to find some relief from the dull ache in his lower back and abdomen. The urinary retention that had developed was both awkward and painful, making him feel weak and vulnerable. Zelda sat beside him, her face etched with concern as she tried to comfort him. "Link, I'm so glad you're feeling better," she said, her voice soft and gentle. "But I have to admit, I don't know what to do about...this." She gestured vaguely towards his lower body, her eyes avoiding the subject. Link winced, feeling a surge of embarrassment. He was usually the strong and capable one, not the one who needed help with something so personal. "Just...get the healer," he muttered, his voice rough from disuse. Zelda nodded and called for the healer, who arrived quickly with a mixture of medicine and herbal remedies. She administered them to Link, explaining that the urinary retention was likely a side effect of the illness, and that it would take some time to clear up. As the healer worked, Zelda tried to distract Link from his discomfort, talking to him about the kingdom and the latest news. But Link's mind was elsewhere, focused on the growing sense of unease that had been building inside him. He was the Hero of Hyrule, the one person who was supposed to be able to protect the kingdom and its people. But now, he was lying in a bed, unable to even take care of himself. The healer finished her ministrations and left, leaving Zelda alone with Link once again. She sat beside him, her hand grasping his as she looked into his eyes. "Link, I know this is hard for you," she said, her voice soft. "But you're going to get through this. You're strong, and you're brave. And I'll be here with you every step of the way." Link smiled weakly, feeling a surge of gratitude towards her. He knew that he was lucky to have her by his side, and he was determined to get better, not just for himself, but for her and for the kingdom. As he lay there, he couldn't help but think about the Master Sword, and whether it was still safe. He wondered if he would ever be able to wield it again, or if the illness had taken that away from him too. The thought sent a shiver down his spine, and he knew that he had to get better, and fast. The kingdom needed him, and he couldn't let it down.
