"A Midnight Revelation"

Part 28

Noah's eyes snapped open, and he sat up with a start, his heart racing like a jackrabbit. He looked around, disoriented, and saw Jacquie's peaceful face in the dim light of the room. He lay back down, trying to calm his breathing, but his mind was still reeling from the vivid dream he had just had. He had been walking through a dark forest with Rachel, and they had stumbled upon a mysterious woman named Ava. The dream had been so real, so intense, that he couldn't shake the feeling that it was trying to tell him something. As he gazed at Jacquie's sleeping face, he felt a pang of guilt for not being able to shake off the dream. He had been having the weirdest dreams lately, full of strange creatures and foreboding landscapes. He couldn't help but wonder if they were connected to the strange occurrences that had been happening around him. But his thoughts were interrupted by his concern for Jacquie. She had been sick for days, and he still had no idea what was wrong with her. He gently brushed a strand of hair out of her face, and she stirred, but didn't wake up. Noah's anxiety spiked as he watched her, wondering if she would ever tell him what was going on. He had tried to ask her multiple times, but she just brushed him off, telling him she was fine, that she just needed to rest. But Noah knew better. He could see the pain in her eyes, the fatigue that seemed to be draining the life out of her. As he lay there, he couldn't help but wonder if Jacquie was hiding something from him. Was she in danger? Was there something she wasn't telling him? The questions swirled in his mind, making it hard for him to fall back asleep. Noah threw off the covers and got out of bed, deciding to make himself a cup of coffee. As he walked to the kitchen, he noticed the clock on the wall. It was only a few hours until midnight, the time Rachel had agreed to meet Ava. He couldn't shake the feeling that his dream had been trying to tell him something, that Ava was somehow connected to Jacquie's illness. He didn't know what to believe, but he knew he had to find out more. As he waited for the coffee to brew, he walked back to the bedroom and sat down beside Jacquie. He took her hand in his, feeling a surge of love and concern for her. "Jacquie," he whispered, "what's going on? What's happening to you?" But she just slept on, unaware of his questions, and Noah was left with only his worries and fears.
