Fear in the Face of Chaos

Part 32

The sun had long since set, casting a dark shadow over the dorms. I walked back to my room, feeling a mix of emotions swirling inside me. The events of the day replayed in my mind, and I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease that lingered. I climbed into bed, trying to push the thoughts aside, but my mind refused to quiet down. The next week flew by in a blur of classes and training sessions. Everything seemed normal, but I couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation building up inside me. It wasn't until Aizawa-sensei announced that we would have another test at the USJ the next day that my anxiety spiked. As soon as he mentioned the USJ, a memory long buried resurfaced in my mind. The League of Villains was likely to show up, and I felt a shiver run down my spine. I tried to push the thought aside, but it lingered, refusing to be ignored. The next day, during lunch, I sat with Ida, Ochaco, and Deku, trying to enjoy my meal. But before I could take a second bite, an alarm blared through the speakers, and the room erupted into chaos. The security system had been breached, and people scrambled to get out of the way. In the chaos, I got separated from my friends. I stumbled forward, trying to find my way back to them, but it was no use. I got hit a couple of times, and my vision began to blur. I almost fell to the floor, but just as I was about to give in, I heard Ida's voice yelling above the din. "It's the news reporters! They're the ones who triggered the alarm! There's no actual threat!" The room slowly began to calm down, and I took advantage of the lull to catch my breath. I stepped to the side, trying to process what had just happened. That's when I saw him - Shigaraki, the leader of the League of Villains. My heart skipped a beat as I felt a chill run down my spine. For a moment, we just stared at each other. Then, his eyes narrowed, and he realized that I knew who he was. His expression changed in an instant, and he charged at me with a speed that left me frozen in fear. Before I could react, he grabbed my neck, his fingers closing around it like a vice. Four fingers, to be exact - his Quirk, Decay, allowed him to disintegrate anything he touched with his bare skin, except for his left hand, which had only one functioning finger. I trembled with fear as he leaned in close. "If you tell anyone in here something's going to happen to your precious family," he whispered, his breath hot against my skin. Then, just as suddenly as he had grabbed me, he let go and ran away, disappearing into the chaos. I stood there, paralyzed with fear, my heart racing in my chest. It took me a few moments to compose myself, but eventually, I managed to take a step forward, and then another, until I was walking out of the room. Aizawa-sensei saw me and frowned. "Vesper, you're late," he said, his eyes scanning me quickly. That's when he noticed the mark on my neck, a faint bruise forming where Shigaraki had grabbed me. But to my surprise, he said nothing about it. "I'm sorry, sensei," I stammered. "I got lost." Aizawa-sensei raised an eyebrow but said nothing more. I took a deep breath and walked with him to the classroom, trying to push the fear and panic aside. But I knew that I wouldn't be able to shake off the feeling of being watched, not with Shigaraki out there, and not with the threat he had made against my family.
