"Down on His Luck"
Part 1
Shizuo Heiwajima trudged along the sidewalk, his eyes fixed on the ground as he clutched a small box containing his belongings. It had been a terrible day. Tom Tanaka, his boss at the warehouse, had called him into his office and informed him that he was letting him go. Effective immediately. Shizuo had tried to argue, but Tanaka had been unmoved. As he walked, Shizuo's thoughts turned to his apartment. He had been struggling to make ends meet, and now that he was jobless, he wasn't sure how he would pay the rent. A sinking feeling formed in his stomach as he approached the apartment complex. He spotted a notice on the door - an eviction notice. His landlord had given him a mere hour to vacate the premises. Shizuo slumped down onto the curb, feeling defeated. He had no money, no job, and now no place to call home. As he sat there, a familiar figure appeared beside him. "Shizu-chan, what are you doing out here?" Izaya Orihara asked, a smirk playing on his lips. He was dressed in his usual impeccable attire, and his hair was perfectly styled. Shizuo looked up at Izaya, a mixture of emotions swirling inside him. "Just...just had a bad day," he muttered. Izaya chuckled and plopped down beside Shizuo. "Ah, I see. Well, in that case, come live with me for a while. I have a spare room, or rather, a whole loft you can call your own." Shizuo's eyes narrowed. "Why would you do that, Izaya?" Izaya shrugged. "I'm a generous person, Shizu-chan. Besides, I have a big house and not enough chaos in my life. You can keep me company. Plus, I think it would be fun to have you around." Shizuo hesitated, unsure if he should trust Izaya's motives. But at the moment, he had no other options. "I...I don't know, Izaya. I don't want to be a burden." Izaya laughed. "Burden? Ha! You're not a burden, Shizu-chan. You're a friend. Well, a friend I like to tease and manipulate, but still." Shizuo raised an eyebrow, but a small smile crept onto his face. "You're a weird friend, Izaya." Izaya grinned. "That's what makes me so lovable. Now, come on. My place is just around the corner. We can grab a drink and celebrate your new living arrangements." Shizuo stood up, brushing off his pants. He had a feeling that his life was about to get a lot more complicated. As they walked, Izaya tossed an arm around Shizuo's shoulders. "So, Shizu-chan, tell me...what do you think is the worst part about being down on your luck?" Shizuo shrugged, unsure how to respond. Izaya's words brought back the events of the day, and he couldn't help but wonder what the future held. As they turned the corner, Shizuo caught sight of Izaya's loft house. It was a stunning structure, with large windows and a sleek design. "Welcome to my humble abode," Izaya said, gesturing grandly. "Make yourself at home, Shizu-chan." Shizuo's eyes widened as he stepped inside. The loft was even more impressive than the exterior, with a spacious living area and a fully stocked kitchen. Izaya led him to a cozy room with a comfortable-looking bed. "This is...really nice," Shizuo said, feeling a bit out of place. Izaya smiled. "I'm glad you like it. Now, let's get you settled in and then we can talk about getting you back on your feet." As Shizuo began to unpack his small box of belongings, he couldn't help but wonder what Izaya's true motives were for helping him. But for now, he was just grateful to have a place to call home.
