"A New Path Unfolds"
Part 263
"I want to change the world, but I will never kill someone for it," I said, my voice firm and resolute as I met Shigaraki's intense gaze. Shigaraki's smile faltered for a moment, and he raised an eyebrow, clearly taken aback by my response. "You can't change the world without getting your hands dirty, Vesper," he said, his voice laced with a hint of disappointment. "You can't create a new reality without breaking free from the constraints of the old one. And sometimes, that means making difficult choices." I shook my head, my mind made up. "I understand what you're saying, but I disagree. I believe that there are better ways to create change, ways that don't involve hurting or killing innocent people. I'm not willing to compromise my values, not even for a goal that I believe in." Shigaraki leaned back in his chair, steepling his fingers together as he regarded me thoughtfully. "I expected as much, Vesper," he said. "You're a idealist, always have been. But the world isn't always a simple place, and sometimes the right thing to do isn't the easy thing to do." I felt a surge of frustration at his words, but I pushed it down, trying to stay focused. "I'm not naive, Shigaraki," I said. "I know that the world is complex, and that there are no easy answers. But I also know that there are lines that we shouldn't cross, lines that define who we are as people. And for me, killing innocent people is one of those lines." Shigaraki nodded, his expression thoughtful. "I understand where you're coming from, Vesper," he said. "But I have to ask, what do you plan to do if I'm not willing to compromise? If I'm not willing to find a way to create change that doesn't involve hurting or killing innocent people?" I took a deep breath, my mind racing with possibilities. "Then I'll have to try to stop you," I said, my voice firm. "I'll have to find a way to derail your plans, to prevent you from carrying out your vision of a new world order." Shigaraki's smile returned, and he leaned forward, his eyes glinting with intensity. "I'm not afraid of you, Vesper," he said. "I'm not afraid of your determination, or your conviction. But I am curious, what do you plan to do, exactly? How do you plan to stop me?" I felt a shiver run down my spine as I met his gaze, my mind racing with possibilities. I knew that I had to be careful, that I had to think strategically if I was going to have any chance of success. But I also knew that I couldn't back down, not now. The fate of the world depended on it.
