The Girls React

Part 4

As Dorothy walked through the front door of the house, her friends looked up from their respective activities, eager to hear all about her coffee date with Lucas. Rose, who was busy making a craft in the living room, put down her glue and scissors and exclaimed, "So, tell us everything! What was he like?" Dorothy smiled, feeling a little self-conscious about her obvious enthusiasm. "He was great," she said, trying to play it cool. "We had a lot in common, and he was really easy to talk to." Blanche, who was lounging on the couch, raised an eyebrow. "That's code for 'he's got a pulse and a decent haircut,' isn't it?" she teased. Dorothy laughed. "No, actually, he's really smart and funny. We had a great time." Sophia, who was sitting in her favorite armchair, looked up from her book and asked, "Did he have a good Medicare plan?" Dorothy rolled her eyes good-naturedly. "Sophia, we're not even married yet. I didn't ask about his health insurance." Rose jumped up from the couch, excitement radiating from her face. "Ooh, ooh! Can we meet him? Can we have him over for dinner?" Dorothy hesitated, feeling a little overwhelmed by her friends' enthusiasm. "Let's not get ahead of ourselves, okay? We're just taking things slow." Blanche snorted. "Slow? You're 55 years old, Dorothy. You've been on how many dates in the past year? Five? Ten? It's time to get back out there and start living a little." Sophia chimed in, "Besides, what's the worst that could happen? He turns out to be a axe murderer? You've got a good support system here. We can help you pick up the pieces." Dorothy shook her head, laughing. "You're not helping, guys." As they continued to chat and speculate about Lucas, Dorothy couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement. She had a feeling that her friends were going to love him, and she was eager to see where things might go. As the evening wore on, the conversation turned to more mundane topics, but Dorothy's mind kept wandering back to Lucas. She couldn't wait to see him again and find out if their chemistry was more than just a spark. The next morning, Dorothy received a call from Lucas, inviting her to join him for a quiet night in. He suggested they watch a movie and get to know each other better. Dorothy agreed, feeling a sense of anticipation that she hadn't felt in a long time. As she hung up the phone, her friends looked up from their activities, eager to hear the news. "What's the verdict?" Rose asked, her eyes shining with excitement. Dorothy smiled, feeling a little giddy. "He wants to spend the evening with me. Just the two of us." Blanche raised an eyebrow. "A night in? That's either a sign of a budding romance or a serial killer." Sophia chimed in, "Or maybe he's just got really bad cable." Dorothy laughed, feeling a sense of excitement and anticipation. She had a feeling that this was just the beginning of something special.
