"New Beginnings in Newport"
Part 1
The sun-kissed beaches of Newport Beach, California, were always alive with the sound of laughter and chatter, a typical Wednesday morning in 2004. I, Amelia Roberts, walked down the hallway of Newport Beach High School, surrounded by a swarm of friends and admirers. My sister, Summer, was the queen bee of our school, and as her sister, I was often dragged into her orbit. We were the popular Roberts twins, with a seemingly perfect life and a closet full of designer clothes. I had just finished getting my hair done at the salon and was feeling like a million bucks. As I walked into my first-period class, I noticed a familiar face sitting in the back – Seth Cohen. He was always there, scribbling in his notebook or doodling cartoons. I rolled my eyes and playfully nudged my friends. "Look, it's Seth Cohen, the king of awkward," I whispered, trying to stifle a giggle. My friends snickered, and we quickly moved to our seats, leaving Seth to his own little world. Seth, with his messy brown hair and thick-framed glasses, had been a fixture at our school since we were kids. I had known him since we were eight years old, but he was never really someone I paid much attention to. He was just...Seth. Quirky, gangly, and always a bit of an outcast. I had no idea that he had harbored a secret crush on me since those early days, a crush that had only grown stronger with time. As I settled into my seat, I couldn't help but think about the upcoming weekend. My sister and I were planning to hit the beach, and I was excited to show off my new summer body. Little did I know, our lives were about to take a dramatic turn. A rumor began to circulate that a new family was moving into the neighborhood – the Atwoods. Apparently, Ryan Atwood, a Chino transfer student with a troubled past, was joining our school. I wasn't too concerned; after all, there were always new students moving into Newport. The bell rang, signaling the start of class. As I began to take notes, I caught a glimpse of Seth staring at me, his eyes squinting behind his glasses. I quickly looked away, dismissing him from my thoughts. The days passed, and the buzz about Ryan Atwood grew louder. People whispered about his tough-guy reputation and his rough past in Chino. I wasn't sure what to believe, but I was curious. Who was this mysterious new kid, and what was his story? As I walked out of school that day, I noticed a commotion near the entrance. A moving truck was parked outside the Cohen house, and Seth was frantically trying to help unload boxes. I watched from afar, amused by Seth's awkward attempts to lift a heavy box. That's when I saw him – Ryan Atwood, standing in the doorway of the Cohen house, looking like a dark cloud had rolled in. His piercing blue eyes scanned the scene, and for a brief moment, our eyes met. I felt a shiver run down my spine, and I quickly looked away, dismissing him from my thoughts. Little did I know, Ryan's arrival would set off a chain reaction that would change my life – and Seth's – forever.
