"A Moment of Desperation"
Part 16
Sabrina walked into the bedroom, a look of concern etched on her face as she called out to Maya. "Hey, girl, I was thinking we could grab some lunch together. I saw a new sandwich shop downtown that I wanted to try." Her voice trailed off as she took in the scene before her. Maya lay in bed, her body shaking with sobs, and Sabrina's eyes widened as she took in the sight of Maya's wrists, streaked with blood. Sabrina rushed to Maya's side, dropping her bag on the floor as she gently took in Maya's condition. "Maya, oh my god, what happened?" she asked, her voice laced with panic. She carefully examined the cuts on Maya's wrists, wincing at the sight of the blood. Maya looked up, her eyes red and puffy from crying, and Sabrina's expression softened. She quickly grabbed a box of tissues and began to gently clean the cuts on Maya's wrists. "It's okay, baby, I'm here. You're safe," she cooed, trying to comfort Maya. As Sabrina tended to Maya's wounds, she couldn't help but feel a surge of anger towards Nick. Where was he? Why had he left Maya like this? Sabrina pushed the thoughts aside, focusing on comforting her girlfriend. Maya sniffled, her body still shaking with sobs. Sabrina pulled her into a gentle hug, holding her close as she cried. "I'm here for you, Maya. I'm not going anywhere," she whispered, her voice a soothing balm to Maya's frazzled nerves. As the tears slowly subsided, Sabrina helped Maya clean up, applying bandages to the cuts on her wrists. Maya leaned into her, grateful for the comfort and support. Sabrina could feel the tension in Maya's body begin to ease, replaced by a sense of trust and security. As they sat on the bed, Sabrina stroked Maya's hair, trying to calm her down. "You can tell me what happened, or you don't have to. Just know that I'm here for you, and I love you," she said, her voice filled with emotion. Maya looked up at Sabrina, her eyes searching for reassurance. Sabrina's expression was calm and supportive, and Maya felt a sense of gratitude towards her girlfriend. She took a deep breath, trying to gather her thoughts. Sabrina pulled Maya into another hug, holding her close as she began to recount her story. "Nick left early this morning, and I didn't know what to do. I felt so alone and overwhelmed," she said, her voice cracking. Sabrina listened attentively, her expression empathetic. "I'm so sorry, Maya. That must have been really tough for you." She held Maya close, trying to absorb some of her pain. As they sat there, wrapped in each other's arms, Maya felt a sense of peace wash over her. She knew that she had Sabrina, and that was all that mattered. For the first time in days, she felt like she could breathe again. Sabrina looked at Maya, her eyes filled with concern. "We need to get you cleaned up and take care of you. Can I get you something to eat or drink?" she asked, her voice soft. Maya nodded, feeling a sense of gratitude towards Sabrina. She knew that she was lucky to have her in her life. As Sabrina helped her get cleaned up, Maya realized that she needed to take care of herself, and that Sabrina would be there to support her every step of the way. The two of them sat on the bed, holding each other, and Maya felt a sense of comfort and security wash over her. She knew that she still had a long way to go, but with Sabrina by her side, she felt like she could face anything.
