**Chapter 11: Shock and Awe**

Jess's hands trembled as she held the pregnancy test, the two pink lines staring back at her like a life-altering revelation. She felt like she had been punched in the gut, her breath knocked out of her. The warm sunshine streaming through the cabin's windows seemed to fade into the background as her mind reeled with the implications. Pedro, sensing her distress, walked into the bathroom, his dark hair mussed from sleep, his brown eyes filled with concern. "Hey, what's wrong?" he asked, his voice low and soothing. Jess held out the test, her eyes welling up with tears. Pedro's eyes widened as he took in the results, his face a picture of shock and awe. For a moment, they just stood there, frozen in time, the only sound the quiet hum of the cabin's heating system. Then, Pedro's face broke out into a wide smile, and he let out a whoop of excitement. "We're having a baby!" he exclaimed, sweeping Jess into his arms. Jess couldn't help but laugh, her initial shock giving way to excitement. They hugged for a long time, the reality of their situation slowly sinking in. As they pulled back, Pedro's eyes sparkled with excitement. "This is amazing," he said, his voice filled with emotion. "We're going to be parents." Jess nodded, feeling a sense of wonder wash over her. They had been so caught up in the moment when they forgot to take precautions, and now...now they were having a baby. As they sat down on the couch, Pedro took Jess's hand in his, his fingers intertwining with hers. "How are you feeling?" he asked, his eyes searching hers. Jess took a deep breath, trying to process her emotions. "I'm...I'm not sure," she admitted. "A part of me is excited, but another part of me is scared." Pedro nodded understandingly, his expression softening. "I know exactly what you mean," he said. "I'm feeling a little bit of everything right now." They sat there in silence for a moment, the only sound the quiet ticking of the clock on the wall. Then, Pedro spoke up. "We're in this together, okay?" he said, his voice filled with conviction. "We'll figure this out, as a team." Jess smiled, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. She knew that she and Pedro would face challenges, but she also knew that they would face them together. As they sat there, wrapped in each other's arms, Jess felt a sense of awe at the tiny miracle growing inside her. She couldn't wait to meet their baby, to hold them in her arms and look into their eyes. Pedro squeezed her hand, his eyes shining with happiness. "This is going to be an adventure," he said.
