"Stepping Back into Duty"
Part 31
The warm glow of their intimate moment in the shower still lingered on Levi's skin as he pulled away from Kenzy, his eyes reluctant to leave hers. They stood there for a moment, the water still cascading down around them, before Kenzy finally broke the silence. "We need to get going," she said, her voice barely above a whisper, her eyes scanning the bathroom as if ensuring they were truly alone. Levi nodded, his mind already snapping back to reality. They had training today, and as much as he wanted to linger in the warmth of their moment, they couldn't afford to be late. Not to mention, they had to keep their relationship a secret, at least for now. As they quickly finished their shower and got dressed, Levi couldn't help but feel a pang of frustration. He wanted to hold Kenzy's hand, to walk into training with her by his side, but they had to be careful. Their commanding officer, Captain Lewis, was notorious for being strict about personal relationships between team members. If he found out about Kenzy and Levi, it could put their entire team at risk. As they made their way to the training grounds, Kenzy walked beside him, her eyes fixed on the ground. Levi knew she was thinking the same thing he was - that they had to keep their relationship hidden, at least for now. "Alright, listen up, team," Captain Lewis barked, his voice cutting through the morning air as they arrived at the training grounds. "Today we're going to be working on our hand-to-hand combat skills. I want to see precision, I want to see control, and I want to see teamwork." Levi and Kenzy exchanged a brief glance, their eyes locking for a moment before they parted ways to take their positions among the team. Levi couldn't help but feel a twinge of guilt, like they were deceiving their teammates, but he knew it was necessary. As training began, Levi found himself going through the motions, his mind still lingering on the warmth of their moment in the shower. He caught glimpses of Kenzy throughout the training, her movements fluid and precise, her eyes flashing with determination. Despite the physical demands of the training, Levi's focus kept drifting back to Kenzy, his heart aching with the need to be close to her, to hold her hand, to look into her eyes. But for now, they had to keep their love a secret, hidden behind a mask of professionalism and duty. As the training session drew to a close, Captain Lewis called them all together, his eyes scanning the team with a critical gaze. "Good work, team," he said, his voice a little softer than usual. "But I want to see more precision, more control. Let's try it again tomorrow, and I want to see improvement." Levi nodded, along with the rest of the team, his eyes flicking to Kenzy, who was watching him with a quiet understanding. They exchanged a brief smile, and for a moment, Levi felt like they were back in the shower, wrapped in each other's arms, the world around them melting away. But it was just a moment, and then they were back to reality, back to their secret, and back to their duty.
