Fear and Uncertainty
Part 24
Ashley's voice was hoarse from crying out Avan's name, and her throat felt parched and dry. The nurse handed her a glass of water, and Ashley sipped it gratefully, her eyes never leaving the nurse's face. "What's wrong with my baby?" she asked, her voice shaking with fear. "Is it serious?" The nurse's expression was sympathetic, but Ashley could see a hint of hesitation in her eyes. "The doctor will explain everything to you, Ashley. I promise. But first, we need to get you comfortable and stable." Ashley's eyes narrowed, her mind racing with worst-case scenarios. "Don't lie to me," she said, her voice firm. "I need to know the truth. What's happening to my baby?" The doctor stepped forward, his expression somber. "Ashley, we're running some tests to determine the cause of the complications. We're concerned about the baby's heart rate, and we're doing everything we can to ensure its safety." Ashley's heart sank, and she felt a wave of fear wash over her. "What does that mean?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "Is my baby going to be okay?" The doctor hesitated, and Ashley's eyes locked onto his. "Please, don't lie to me," she repeated. "I need to know the truth." Just then, the door to the hospital room swung open, and Avan walked in, his face etched with worry. "I'm sorry I had to leave," he said, moving to Ashley's side. "I had to take care of something. But I'm here now, and I won't leave you again." Ashley's eyes searched his face, looking for answers. "What happened?" she asked, her voice shaking. "Why did you have to leave?" Avan's expression was grim, and he glanced at the doctor before turning back to Ashley. "I'll tell you everything, I promise. But first, we need to focus on getting you and the baby the care you need." Ashley's eyes locked onto Avan's, and she saw the fear and uncertainty reflected back at her. She knew that something was seriously wrong, and she steeled herself for the truth. "Tell me," she said, her voice firm. "I need to know what's going on."
