"Consequences Unfold"
Part 4
Emma quickly got dressed, her mind racing with the need to get emergency contraception. She couldn't believe she had been so careless, and now she had to take action. As she was about to leave the apartment, she turned to Max and said, "Oh, I just remembered I forgot to pick up a package for my friend who's out of town. I promised her I'd get it for her, and I really need to go do that now." Max raised an eyebrow, his expression skeptical. "Your friend? What's her name again?" Emma hesitated for a moment before responding, "Uh, Sarah. Yeah, Sarah. I'll just call you when I'm done, okay?" Max nodded, but Emma could tell he didn't believe her. She quickly grabbed her purse and headed out the door, feeling a sense of relief wash over her as she stepped out into the fresh air. As she walked to the pharmacy, Emma couldn't help but feel a sense of anxiety. What if they didn't have any emergency contraception in stock? What if she couldn't get it? She pushed the thoughts aside and focused on her mission. When she arrived at the pharmacy, Emma went straight to the counter and asked for Plan B. The pharmacist, a middle-aged woman with a kind face, looked at her with a mixture of concern and apology. "I'm so sorry, honey, but I'm not allowed to sell that to you." Emma's heart sank. "What do you mean? It's a prescription medication, isn't it?" The pharmacist shook her head. "In this state, there's a law that prohibits the sale of emergency contraception to minors without parental consent. And even if you were over 18, there are still restrictions. I'm sorry, sweetie." Emma felt a wave of anger and frustration wash over her. She was trapped, and she didn't know what to do. She left the pharmacy, her mind racing with thoughts of how she was going to handle this situation. As she walked back to her apartment, Emma's phone rang. It was Aaron, her friend who was out of town. She answered, and they chatted for a bit before she told him about what had happened with Max and the pharmacy. Aaron listened attentively, and Emma could tell he was angry on her behalf. But before she could tell Aaron more, Emma heard a voice behind her. "So, you're really seeing Aaron, huh?" Max said, his voice cold and accusatory. Emma turned to face him, her heart racing. "What are you talking about? I was just picking up a package for my friend." Max sneered. "Don't lie to me, Emma. I know you're not over him. You've been talking to him the whole time we've been together. I had you followed." Emma's eyes widened in shock. "You had me followed? Are you kidding me?" Max took a step closer to her. "I wanted to know what you were really up to. And it looks like you're still seeing Aaron behind my back." Emma's anger boiled over. "That's not true! I was just trying to take care of something. And besides, even if I was seeing Aaron, it's none of your business." Max's face darkened. "It's my business when you're lying to me. We need to talk about this, Emma." Emma shook her head, her voice rising. "No, we don't. I think we've said enough."
