**Chapter 1: The Golden Girls' Happy Hour**

Part 1

The sun was setting over Miami, casting a warm orange glow over the bustling streets of Coconut Grove. Dorothy, Rose, Blanche, and Sophia had decided to meet at their favorite diner, Joe's, for a Happy Hour treat – a slice of their famous cheesecake and a glass of wine. As they slid into their booth, the diner's owner, Joe, greeted them with a warm smile. "Hey, girls! The usual, I presume?" he asked, already knowing the answer. The girls nodded in unison, and Joe disappeared to fetch their treats. Dorothy sipped her wine, feeling particularly pleased with herself. It had been a good week, with her latest writing project going well and her friends being their usual, lovable selves. As they dug into their cheesecake, Rose couldn't help but dominate the conversation. "I had the most fascinating conversation with my friend Myron from St. Olaf yesterday. He told me about the most interesting way to make a cheesecake – using a water bath to ensure a smooth, creamy texture!" Blanche rolled her eyes good-naturedly. "Rose, darling, we all know you're a font of knowledge, but must you share every single detail with us?" Sophia, never one to miss an opportunity to crack a joke, chimed in, "Picture it: Sicily, 1920. My mother, God rest her soul, made the most divine cheesecake in all the land. Of course, she also made me eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I turned out just fine, didn't I?" The girls laughed, and Dorothy smiled, feeling grateful for her friends. They were a quirky bunch, but they loved each other, and that's all that mattered. Just as they were getting into a lively discussion about the merits of various cheesecake toppings, the door to the diner swung open, and a handsome stranger walked in. His eyes scanned the room, locking onto Dorothy with an unmistakable spark of interest. Dorothy felt a flutter in her chest as their eyes met, and for a moment, she forgot to breathe. Who was this charming stranger, and why was he staring at her like she was the only person in the room? The stranger's gaze lingered on Dorothy for a beat before he smiled and made his way to the counter, ordering a coffee and taking a seat at the counter. The girls noticed Dorothy's distraction and followed her gaze. "Well, well, well," Blanche said, raising an eyebrow. "Look what we have here. Someone's caught your eye, Dorothy!" Dorothy's cheeks flushed as she quickly looked away, trying to play it cool. "Oh, don't be ridiculous. I'm just... admiring the decor." But Sophia wasn't fooled. "Don't worry, dear, we won't tease you... yet. But mark my words, that young man is trouble. Or, at the very least, a very interesting development." Little did they know, their friend's life was about to take a dramatic turn, one that would lead to love, marriage, and a very unexpected twist.
