"A Life-Changing Discovery"
Part 20
Noah scrubbed the bathroom sink, his mind still preoccupied with Jacquie's sudden illness earlier that day. He couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off, and he found himself wondering if she was okay, really okay. As he cleaned, his gaze wandered to the cabinet where Jacquie kept her personal things. On a whim, he opened it, and his eyes scanned the shelves for anything out of the ordinary. That's when he saw it - a packet of pregnancy tests, still sealed and with instructions attached. Noah's heart skipped a beat as a question formed in his mind: Is Jacquie pregnant? He felt a mix of emotions: excitement, surprise, and a hint of worry. Noah's curiosity got the better of him, and he began to search through the drawers and the bin, hoping to find some clue, any clue, that would confirm or deny his suspicions. He checked the bathroom trash, but all he found were tissues and empty soap dispensers. Undeterred, Noah moved on to Jacquie's dressing table, his fingers tracing the intricate patterns on the wooden surface as he opened the top drawer. It was filled with jewelry, hair clips, and perfume bottles. The second drawer contained folded clothes and socks. But the third drawer, the one closest to him, was locked. A surge of frustration ran through Noah, but he didn't let it deter him. He searched for the key, his eyes scanning the room until they landed on a small, hidden compartment in the table's base. The key was there, and with a satisfying click, the drawer opened. Inside, Noah found a small box filled with makeup and a pouch containing three small sticks. His heart racing, he opened the pouch and pulled out the sticks. They were pregnancy tests, and all three had a clear, bold line: positive. Noah's mind reeled as he stared at the test results, his thoughts spinning with questions and emotions. Jacquie was pregnant. Their lives, their quiet, predictable lives, were about to change forever. He felt a lump form in his throat as he thought about the possibilities, the challenges, and the joys that lay ahead. As he sat there, frozen in time, Noah heard the shower turn off in the bathroom. Jacquie would be out soon, and he knew he had to be ready. He carefully returned the tests to their hiding place, his heart pounding with excitement and anticipation. He couldn't wait to talk to Jacquie, to share in her joy, and to start this new chapter in their lives together.
