"A Leap of Faith"
Part 199
"Okay, I trust you," I said, my voice firm, as I looked into Shinso's eyes. Shinso's smile softened, and he nodded slightly, as if he had expected me to say that. "Thank you, Vesper," he said, his voice low and gentle. "I promise I won't let you down." Bakugo's eyes narrowed, his expression still dark with suspicion. "I don't trust him," he growled, his voice low and menacing. "He's too smooth, too perfect. He's hiding something." Shinso's eyes flicked to Bakugo's, and for a moment, I thought I saw a flash of pain there. But it was quickly replaced by a calm, serene expression. "I understand your concerns, Katsuki," he said, his voice even. "But I assure you, my intentions are pure." I placed a hand on Bakugo's arm, trying to calm him down. "Let's just hear him out, okay?" I said, my voice soothing. "Shinso, what do you need to do?" Shinso's eyes locked on mine, and he took a deep breath. "I've received information about a... situation," he said, his voice measured. "One that requires my attention. And I need you two to trust me, and let me handle it." I frowned, my mind racing with possibilities. "What kind of situation?" I asked, my voice curious. Shinso's expression turned enigmatic, and he smiled softly at me. "I'm not at liberty to say," he said, his voice gentle. "But I promise you, it's for the best. And I won't put you two in harm's way." Bakugo snorted, his expression skeptical. "Yeah, right," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "We're supposed to just trust you, and take your word for it?" I shot Bakugo a warning look, trying to calm him down. "Let's just trust him, okay?" I said, my voice firm. "For now, at least." Shinso nodded, his eyes locked on mine. "Thank you, Vesper," he said, his voice low and gentle. "I won't let you down." As he spoke, I couldn't help but feel a sense of trepidation. What was Shinso getting us into? And was I really making a mistake by trusting him? Only time would tell.
