"Facing the Music"
Part 13
As they opened the door, Mia stood in the entrance, her eyes scanning the room before landing on Kenzy and Levi. The tension was palpable, and Kenzy could feel her sister's anxiety radiating towards her. Mia's eyes narrowed slightly, her gaze flicking between Kenzy and Levi before she stepped inside. The three of them made their way to the living room, the silence between them thick with unspoken questions. They sat down, Mia and Kenzy on the couch, Levi in the armchair across from them. The room seemed to shrink, the air growing heavy with anticipation. Mia's eyes locked onto Kenzy's, her expression a mix of concern and curiosity. "So?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. "What's happening?" Kenzy took a deep breath, her heart racing in her chest. She glanced at Levi, who offered her a reassuring smile. She turned back to Mia, her voice trembling slightly. "Levi and I are..." she started, her words trailing off. Levi stepped in, his voice calm and clear. "Together," he finished, his eyes never leaving Mia's face. The room fell silent, Mia's expression frozen in shock. Kenzy held her breath, waiting for her sister's reaction. Mia's eyes darted between her and Levi, her face a mask of confusion and concern. Kenzy could see the questions forming on Mia's lips, but her sister seemed to be struggling to find the right words. The silence stretched out, becoming increasingly uncomfortable. Finally, Mia spoke up, her voice laced with a mix of surprise and wariness. "Together?" she repeated, her eyes narrowing. "What does that mean, exactly?" Kenzy felt Levi's hand brush against hers, a gentle reminder that he was there for her. She took a deep breath, steeling herself for the conversation that was about to unfold. She glanced at Levi, and he gave her a nod of encouragement. "Let's just take this one step at a time, okay?" Kenzy said, her voice soft. "We can talk about everything, but for now, just know that Levi and I... we care about each other. And we're trying to figure things out." Mia's expression remained skeptical, but Kenzy could see the curiosity burning in her eyes. She leaned forward, her elbows on her knees. "I want to understand," Mia said, her voice a little softer. "But you have to understand, Kenzy, I've been worried sick about you. You've been avoiding me, and I had no idea what was going on." Kenzy felt a pang of guilt, knowing that she had been neglecting her sister. She reached out, taking Mia's hand in hers. "I'm sorry, Mia," Kenzy said, her voice sincere. "I know I should have been more honest with you. But I was trying to protect you, and myself." Mia's eyes searched Kenzy's face, and for a moment, they just looked at each other. Then, Mia nodded, a small smile on her lips. "Let's talk," Mia said, her voice firm. "And let's figure this out, together."
