Lars's Plea

Part 5

The castle's cold, stone walls seemed to close in on Hans as he lay on his bed, restrained by thick leather straps. His eyes were wild, his mind consumed by the darkness that had been growing inside him since his return to the Southern Isles. Lars, Hans's brother, watched him with a mixture of sadness and concern, knowing that something had to be done to save Hans from himself. As he pondered what to do, Lars couldn't help but think of Anna, the princess of Arendelle. She had been betrayed by Hans, but Lars hoped that she would be willing to forgive him and help him recover. He knew that it was a long shot, but he was desperate. Lars decided to reach out to Anna, to beg for her help. He sat down at his desk, took a piece of parchment, and began to write. "Dear Anna," he wrote, "I know that Hans hurt you deeply, and I'm not expecting you to forgive him easily. But I have to try. He's...he's not doing well. His condition is deteriorating rapidly, and I'm afraid that if we don't do something soon, we might lose him forever." Lars hesitated, unsure of how to continue. He knew that Anna had every reason to hate Hans, but he also knew that she was a kind and compassionate person. "Hans's mental state has been declining since his return to the Southern Isles," Lars explained, trying to be as honest as possible. "He's become increasingly erratic and violent, and we've had to restrain him to keep him from harming himself or others. I've tried to talk to him, to reason with him, but he's beyond reason. I'm afraid that he's losing his grip on reality, and I don't know how to help him." Lars took a deep breath, his heart heavy with emotion. "That's why I'm turning to you, Anna. I know that you were hurt by Hans's actions, but I'm begging you to help him. He's my brother, and I care about him deeply. I know that he's not beyond redemption, and I believe that with your help, we can save him." Lars folded the parchment, sealed it with the royal crest, and handed it to a servant. "Take this to Arendelle," he ordered. "Find Anna and deliver this letter to her. I'm counting on her to help us save Hans." The servant nodded and left the room, leaving Lars to wonder if he had made a mistake. Would Anna forgive Hans and help him recover, or would she turn her back on him? As Lars waited for a response from Anna, he couldn't help but think about the state of the Southern Isles. The kingdom was a very unhappy place, ruled by King Westergard's harsh and brutal regime. The people suffered under the king's taxes, and any defiance was put down with an iron fist. Lars's own father, King Westergard, was a ruthless man who cared little for his people's welfare. His 12 sons, including Lars, Rudi, and Runo, were similarly awful people, except for Lars and Caleb, the crown prince. Lars sighed, feeling the weight of his responsibilities. He was third in line to the throne, and he knew that he had to do what was best for the kingdom, even if it meant making difficult decisions. But for now, his priority was saving Hans. He could only hope that Anna would answer their call for help and that together, they could find a way to bring Hans back from the brink of madness. The hours ticked by, and Lars waited anxiously for a response from Anna. He knew that time was running out, and he could only hope that she would forgive Hans and help him recover. The fate of his brother, and possibly the entire kingdom, hung in the balance.
