Chapter 9: Uncertain Intentions

Part 9

My house is right over there, I said, trying to sound casual as I pointed towards the direction of my home, feeling a sudden urge to escape the charged atmosphere and get out of these wet clothes. "I should probably get out and go inside so I can change into some dry clothes." Adrian's eyes followed my gesture, and he nodded, his smile still playing on his lips. "Yeah, that's a good idea," he said, his voice low and smooth. "You don't want to catch a cold." I stood up, feeling a little unsteady, and Adrian quickly followed suit, his hand on my elbow to steady me. We walked in silence towards my house, the only sound being the crunch of gravel beneath our feet. As we approached my front door, Adrian turned to me, his eyes searching mine. "Do you need any help getting changed?" he asked, his voice low and husky, his eyes sparkling with amusement. I felt a flush rise to my cheeks, and I quickly shook my head. "No, I'm fine, thanks," I said, trying to sound casual. Adrian chuckled, and his eyes crinkled at the corners. "Okay, but if you need anything, just call," he said, his voice laced with suggestion. I nodded, feeling a little breathless, and reached for the door handle. As I opened the door, Adrian stepped forward, his hand on the doorframe, blocking my exit. "Hey, cuz," he said, his voice low and serious. "Make sure you're okay, okay?" I nodded, feeling a little overwhelmed by his concern. "I'll be fine," I said, trying to reassure him. Adrian's eyes searched mine, and for a moment, I thought he was going to say something else. But then, he nodded, and stepped back, allowing me to enter my house. As I stepped inside, I felt a sigh of relief wash over me. I was finally alone, and I could process the strange and confusing feelings that Adrian had stirred up inside me. But as I turned to close the door, I caught a glimpse of Adrian's face, his eyes watching me with an intensity that made my heart skip a beat.
