A Moment of Connection
Part 267
The air was thick with tension as I waited for Shigaraki's response, my heart pounding in my chest. I had seen a glimmer of understanding in his eyes, a spark of connection that I was desperate to fan into a flame. But just as I thought I was making progress, the door burst open and Toga Himiko strode in, her eyes flashing with impatience. "You're taking too longggg," she pouted, her voice like a dagger to my heart. Shigaraki's expression changed in an instant, the spark in his eyes disappearing as he turned to face her. I felt a pang of despair, as if I had been punched in the gut. I had almost had him, I was sure of it. Toga sauntered over to Shigaraki, her eyes never leaving mine. "What's going on here?" she asked, her voice dripping with curiosity. Shigaraki's eyes flicked back to mine, and for a moment, I thought I saw a glimmer of apology. But it was quickly extinguished as he turned back to Toga. "Just having a discussion," he said, his voice cool and detached once more. Toga's eyes narrowed, her gaze raking over me as if searching for something. I felt a shiver run down my spine as she smiled, her eyes glinting with amusement. "About what?" she asked, her voice husky and suggestive. Shigaraki hesitated, and for a moment, I thought I saw a flicker of uncertainty. But then his mask slipped back into place, and he shrugged. "Nothing important," he said, his voice dismissive. Toga's eyes flashed with disappointment, but she didn't push the issue. Instead, she turned to me, her smile growing wider. "I think it's time we got back to the plan," she said, her voice dripping with excitement. "We have a city to destroy, after all." I felt a chill run down my spine as Shigaraki's eyes locked onto mine, his expression cold and calculating once more. I had lost my chance, it seemed. The connection we had made was broken, and I was left staring into the abyss once more. I took a deep breath, trying to regroup and come up with a new plan. But for now, I was at a loss. The spark of hope that had flared to life in Shigaraki's eyes was gone, extinguished by Toga's interruption. I could only wonder if I would ever get another chance to reach him.
