"A Twist of Fate"
Part 40
The next morning, Ashley's phone rang, shrill in the quiet of her bedroom. She groggily reached over to answer it, expecting it to be Alev calling to check in on her after the excitement of the previous day. But instead, she heard the voice of her doctor on the other end of the line. "Ashley, I'm so sorry to call you so early," he said, his voice filled with a mixture of apology and embarrassment. "I need to talk to you about your test results from last week." Ashley's heart skipped a beat as she sat up in bed, her mind racing with worst-case scenarios. "What is it, Doctor?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady. The doctor took a deep breath before speaking. "I'm afraid there's been a mistake. I mixed up your test results with another patient's. And I have some... surprising news for you." Ashley's mind was reeling as the doctor continued. "You see, Ashley, you're not having a girl. You're actually having a boy." The room seemed to spin around Ashley as she processed the doctor's words. A boy? But they had celebrated just the day before, surrounded by friends and family, with pink confetti and congratulations on the way. How could this be? "Ashley, are you okay?" the doctor asked, concern evident in his voice. Ashley took a deep breath, trying to calm down. "Yeah, I'm fine," she lied. "I just... need a minute to process this." The doctor apologized profusely, explaining that it was an honest mistake and that he would make sure to double-check everything going forward. Ashley listened, still trying to wrap her head around the news. As she hung up the phone, she couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of it all. A boy? They were having a boy? She couldn't wait to tell Alev, and see his reaction. She got out of bed and walked over to the window, looking out at the bright morning sun. It seemed like fate had a way of surprising them, and they would just have to roll with it. Ashley took a deep breath, feeling a mix of emotions swirling inside her. Excitement, surprise, and a little bit of disappointment that their plans for a little girl were suddenly turned upside down. But as she thought about it, she realized that it didn't matter - they were having a baby, and that was all that truly mattered. With a newfound sense of excitement, Ashley walked over to the bed and picked up her phone. She couldn't wait to share the news with Alev, and see what the future held for their little family.
