Aftermath
Part 4
Mai's eyes fluttered open, and she gazed up at Yuu, who was still holding her close. As she took a deep breath, her gaze shifted to Ruka and Midori, who stood nearby, concern etched on their faces. "Get away from me," Mai said, her voice weak but firm. Ruka took another step closer, her eyes fixed on Mai's face. "Just let me take a look," Ruka pleaded, her voice gentle. Mai's eyes narrowed, and she shook her head, but Ruka continued to inch closer. Midori, however, didn't hesitate. She turned and rushed out of the room, determined to catch up with Haruka. The others watched as she disappeared, and then Ruka tried to move closer to Mai again. Mai's hands held up, palms facing Ruka, as if to ward her off. "I said get away," she repeated, her voice a little stronger now. Yuu wrapped her arms tighter around Mai, holding her close. "It's okay, Mai," Yuu said softly. "We'll take care of you." Ruka hesitated, then slowly backed away, her eyes never leaving Mai's face. Mai's gaze lingered on Ruka for a moment before shifting to Yuu. She took a deep breath, and Yuu helped her sit up straighter. As Mai looked down at her own body, her eyes widened in shock. Yuu's grip on Mai tightened. "Don't worry, Mai. We'll get you fixed up," she said, trying to reassure her. Mai's eyes met Yuu's, and for a moment, they just looked at each other. The room was quiet, except for Mai's labored breathing and the sound of Midori's car starting up in the distance. Ruka's eyes drifted to the door, hoping that Midori would return soon with Haruka. As the minutes ticked by, Mai's eyes began to droop, and Yuu helped her lie back down. "I'm going to get some towels and water," Ruka said softly, backing away slowly. Mai's eyes fluttered open again, and she gazed up at Yuu. "What about Haruka?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Yuu's expression was grim, and she hesitated before answering. "Midori went after her," Yuu said quietly. Mai's eyes closed, and she took a deep breath, her body relaxing into Yuu's arms. But as she drifted off to sleep, her face was etched with worry and concern.
