"Midday Slumber"

Part 4

The warm sunlight streaming through the windows had lulled Jack into a peaceful sleep, his head resting on Ennis's chest as they lay on the couch. Ennis, half sitting, half laying down, gently stroked Jack's hair, his mind beginning to wander. He thought about how much he loved the way Jack's hair curled slightly at the nape of his neck, and how his scent, a mix of soap and aftershave, filled Ennis's nostrils. As he lay there, Ennis's thoughts turned to the thing that had been on his mind for weeks - having kids with Jack. He had a bad baby kink, and it seemed like he couldn't stop thinking about it. He imagined what it would be like to have a little one running around their ranch, playing with Roscoe and Clyde, and growing up with Jack by his side. Ennis shifted slightly, trying to get comfortable, and Jack stirred, murmuring something incoherent. "Shh, babe, it's okay," Ennis whispered, his deep voice soothing. Jack snuggled deeper into Ennis's chest, and Ennis wrapped his arms around him, holding him close. As he lay there, Ennis's thoughts turned to the practicalities of having kids. They would need to figure out a way to make it work, considering their situation and the time period they lived in. But Ennis couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement at the prospect of being a dad. "Aw, shucks," Ennis muttered to himself, "I'm gettin' all worked up over nothin'." He glanced down at Jack, who was still fast asleep, his face peaceful and serene. Ennis's heart swelled with affection for the man in his arms. "You're a mighty fine thing, sweetheart," he whispered, his voice low and rough. As he lay there, Ennis's mind continued to wander, thinking about all the things he wanted to do with Jack and their future kids. He imagined taking them on hikes, teaching them how to ride horses, and watching them grow up. Ennis's thoughts were interrupted by Jack's gentle stirring. "Hey, babe," Jack said, his voice husky from sleep. "What's goin' on?" Ennis smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Just layin' here thinkin', sugarplum," he replied, his voice low and smooth. Jack sat up, rubbing his eyes. "Thinkin' about what, honey?" he asked, his voice sweet and melodic. Ennis shrugged, his shoulders rolling beneath Jack. "Just life, I reckon," he said, his voice nonchalant. Jack raised an eyebrow, his eyes sparkling with curiosity. "Life, huh?" he repeated, his voice dripping with amusement. Ennis grinned, his teeth white in his tanned face. "Yeah, and all the things that come with it, sweetcheeks," he said, his voice rough and playful. Jack laughed, his eyes shining with mirth. "You're a mighty mysterious man, Ennis," he said, his voice filled with affection. Ennis chuckled, his deep voice rumbling. "Just a cowboy with a lot on his mind, that's all, darlin'," he replied, his voice rugged and easy. As they sat there, Ennis wrapped his arms around Jack, pulling him close. "I'm just happy to have you, sugar," he said, his voice low and sincere. Jack smiled, his eyes shining with love. "I'm happy to have you too, babe," he replied, his voice sweet and gentle.
