"A Family Affair"
Part 4
The warm sunshine on their skin was a gentle reminder of the beautiful day they had just shared as a family. As they walked to their car, Maya turned to Brock, "I had a great time today. Your family is amazing." Brock smiled, putting his arm around her, "I'm glad you enjoyed it. I think they're starting to like you." Maya laughed, "I think they're starting to like me a little too much." As they drove away from Reba's house, Brock couldn't help but feel grateful for this new chapter in his life, one that included Maya and the love and support of his family. The kids were all chattering excitedly in the backseat, already making plans for their next family outing. Van turned around, "Hey, Dad, can we go to the park this weekend? Pleeease?" Brock glanced in the rearview mirror, "We'll see, buddy. Let's check the weather forecast first." Cheyenne chimed in, "Yeah, and can Maya come with us?" Brock smiled, glancing at Maya, "I'm sure she'd love to." Kyra, who was sitting quietly in the backseat, suddenly spoke up, "Dad, can I ask you something?" Brock replied, "Of course, sweetie, what's on your mind?" Kyra looked at him with her big brown eyes, "Do you think Maya might want to go on a hike with just me and you?" Brock's heart swelled with pride at his daughter's request, "I'm sure she'd love to, kiddo. Let me check her schedule and we can plan something." Jake, who had been quiet until now, spoke up, "Yeah, and can I come too, Dad?" Brock chuckled, "We'll see, Jake. You know you have a lot of schoolwork to catch up on." Jake pouted, "Aww, come on, Dad." As they pulled into their driveway, Brock's phone rang. He answered it, and after a brief conversation, he hung up, "That was my friend, Alex. He invited us to a barbecue at his place this weekend." Maya smiled, "Sounds like fun. Who's going?" Brock replied, "The whole crew, I think. Alex said to bring the kids." Maya leaned over and whispered, "I'm looking forward to spending more time with your family." Brock smiled, his heart full of joy, "Me too, Maya. Me too." As they stepped out of the car, Brock couldn't help but feel grateful for this new chapter in his life, one that included Maya and the love and support of his family. The kids tumbled out of the car, already racing to see who could get to the house first. As they entered the house, Brock noticed that Maya seemed a little quieter than usual. He walked over to her and asked, "Hey, everything okay? You seem a little distracted." Maya smiled and replied, "Yeah, everything's fine. I was just thinking about my job and how much I've been enjoying my free time with you and the kids." Brock put his arm around her, "We're glad to have you, Maya. You're a great addition to our family." Maya's face lit up with a smile, and Brock could see the happiness radiating from her. He knew that he had made the right decision in bringing her into their lives. As they stood there, wrapped in each other's arms, Brock knew that this was just the beginning of a beautiful new chapter in their lives.
