Chapter 11: The Noose Awaits
Part 10
The dim fluorescent lights overhead cast an eerie glow on the cold, concrete floor as Misa's eyes adjusted to the stark surroundings. She blinked away the haze of memories, her mind reeling from the events that had led her here. Light, the man she loved, was dead. The warehouse showdown had claimed his life, and now she was to pay the ultimate price. The officer in charge, a man with a stern expression and a clipboard, approached her. "Misa Amane, you have been found guilty of crimes against the state. Your sentence is death by hanging." His words were devoid of emotion, a mere recitation of facts. Misa's gaze wandered, taking in the indoor gallows constructed in the center of the room. The noose, a simple yet deadly device, seemed to mock her. She felt a shiver run down her spine as the officer continued to read out her sentence. The memories of Light flooded her mind – their passionate encounters, their whispers in the dead of night, and their desperate attempts to create a life together. It all seemed so futile now. Misa's eyes began to well up with tears as she thought of the life they would never have. The officer finished reading the sentence, and two burly guards approached Misa. They grasped her arms, their grip firm but not unkind, and began to lead her toward the gallows. Misa's legs felt heavy, as if rooted to the spot, but the guards' gentle yet firm pressure propelled her forward. As she walked, Misa's thoughts turned to the irony of her situation. She had once been so willing to die for Light, to sacrifice everything for him. Now, it seemed, she would die alone, without him by her side. The guards stopped Misa beneath the gallows, and one of them reached up to adjust the noose. Misa felt a cold dread creeping up her spine as the rope settled around her neck. The officer gave the order, and the trapdoor beneath her feet swung open. Time seemed to slow as Misa plummeted downward, the noose constricting around her neck. Her vision began to blur, and her last thought was of Light – his smile, his touch, and the love they had shared. The darkness closed in, and Misa's world went silent.
