The Moment of Truth

Part 91

Two weeks had passed since Avan's desperate plea to Ashley, and a lot had changed since then. Ashley was still in the hospital, but she was now 36 weeks pregnant, and her body was preparing for the big day. Avan had been by her side every step of the way, taking care of her and trying to manage the chaos at home with Alex. As the clock struck 6 am, Ashley stirred in her bed, feeling a strange pressure in her lower abdomen. She looked down at her belly, feeling a gush of fluid, and her heart skipped a beat. She knew that feeling, and she knew what it meant. "Avan," she called out, her voice shaking slightly. "Avan, I think something's happening." Avan, who had been dozing in his chair beside her bed, jolted awake. "What's wrong, Ashley?" he asked, his eyes scanning her face. Ashley took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. "I feel...I feel like water is breaking. I think the baby is coming." Avan's face went pale as he quickly grabbed the nurse's call button. "I'm calling for help," he said, his voice firm. The nurse rushed into the room, followed by a doctor, and Ashley was quickly assessed. The doctor confirmed Avan's worst fears: Ashley was in labor, and their baby was on its way. As the medical team sprang into action, Ashley felt a mix of emotions: excitement, fear, and relief. She had been waiting for this moment for what felt like an eternity, and now that it was finally here, she was ready. The doctor began to explain the next steps, but Ashley wasn't really listening. She was too focused on the sensations in her body, and the thought of meeting her baby for the first time. Avan, on the other hand, was listening intently, his eyes fixed on the doctor. He had a million questions, but he knew he had to stay calm for Ashley's sake. As the doctor finished her explanation, Avan took Ashley's hand, his eyes locked on hers. "You're doing great," he whispered. "We're almost there." Ashley smiled weakly, feeling a surge of love for Avan. She knew she wasn't alone, and that he would be by her side every step of the way. The doctor smiled, too, and patted Ashley's shoulder. "Let's get you ready to push," she said. "Our baby is almost here."
