Tensions Within the Ranks

Part 6

Sanemi Shinazugawa, the Wind Hashira, let out a disapproving snort as he gazed at Giyuu Tomioka. His eyes narrowed, his expression twisted in distaste. "Great, you're here. I was hoping to avoid your depressing presence for one more day." He crossed his arms, his stance radiating discomfort. Iguro Shiragame, the Serpent Hashira, nodded in agreement, her voice laced with disdain. "Yes, Tomioka-san, we don't really need your... particular brand of gloominess right now. Can't you just cheer up for once?" Her eyes flashed with annoyance, her gaze lingering on Giyuu's stoic face. The other Hashiras exchanged uneasy glances, their reactions to Sanemi and Iguro's outbursts varying. Rengoku, ever the optimist, wore a warm smile, but even he seemed hesitant to intervene. Mitsuri, on the other hand, placed a gentle hand on Sanemi's arm, her voice soothing. "Now, now, Sanemi-san, let's not be too hard on Tomioka-san. We're all here to support each other." Gyomei, the Blind Hashira, placed a reassuring hand on Giyuu's shoulder, his grip firm. "Tomioka-san, we trust you. Whatever this meeting entails, we'll face it together, as Hashiras." His calm demeanor served as a counterbalance to Sanemi and Iguro's negativity. Muichiro, the Mist Hashira, fidgeted with his hands, his eyes darting between Giyuu and the Ubuyashiki estate. "R-right, let's focus on the meeting, shall we?" He seemed eager to steer the conversation back on track. As the Hashiras gathered before the Ubuyashiki estate, Ubara Ubuyashiki greeted them, his expression grave. "Tomioka-san, thank you for coming. I fear we have a matter of great importance to discuss." His eyes lingered on Giyuu, a hint of concern etched on his face. Kocho, the Insect Hashira, skipped forward, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "Ooh, I love meetings! What kind of trouble are we here to discuss, Ubara-san?" Her cheerful demeanor contrasted sharply with Sanemi and Iguro's sullenness. Giyuu's expression remained impassive, his eyes fixed on Ubara Ubuyashiki. "Let's hear what Ubara-san has to say." His voice was low and even, betraying no hint of emotion. The Hashiras parted, allowing Giyuu to step forward, his presence commanding attention. As they waited for Ubara Ubuyashiki to speak, the tension between Sanemi, Iguro, and Giyuu hung in the air, a palpable force that threatened to disrupt the meeting before it had even begun.
