Morning After

Part 42

The morning sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating the peaceful scene before me. I slowly sat up, rubbing my eyes, trying to shake off the remnants of sleep. As I looked around, I saw that we were still in the same position as the night before, our heads resting on each other's shoulders. I gently moved my head away from Izuku's shoulder, and he stirred, opening his eyes. "Morning," he said, his voice a little groggy. I smiled, feeling a bit more awake now. "Morning," I replied. Izuku sat up, stretching his arms above his head. I watched him, trying to gather my thoughts. There was something that had been bothering me since the night before, and I decided to ask him about it. "Hey, Izuku?" I said, my voice a little hesitant. "Yeah?" he responded, looking at me with a curious expression. "Why did you call me Ochaco?" I asked, my eyes locked on his. Izuku's expression changed, and he looked away, a hint of embarrassment on his face. "I don't know, sorry Vesper," he said, his voice a little sheepish. I raised an eyebrow, intrigued by his response. "You don't know?" I repeated. Izuku shook his head, looking back at me. "No, I just...I don't know. It just felt right, I guess." I studied his face, trying to read his expression. He seemed genuinely unsure, but there was something in his eyes that suggested he might be hiding something. "Is it a nickname or something?" I asked, trying to press him for more information. Izuku shrugged. "I don't think so. I've just...I've always kind of called you that, I guess." I frowned, feeling a bit confused. "But why?" I asked again. Izuku sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "Look, Vesper, I'm sorry. I don't know why I called you Ochaco. It just slipped out, okay?" I nodded, feeling a bit more understanding. Maybe he really didn't know why he called me that. But a part of me was still curious, and I couldn't shake off the feeling that there was more to it than he was letting on. As we sat there, looking at each other, I realized that I had a lot to learn about Izuku, and he about me. But for now, I was just happy to be sitting next to him, enjoying the quiet morning moment we shared.
