"Confronting the Devil"
Part 5
Maya stood at the grand entrance of Sabrina's mansion, her heart racing like a jackrabbit as she clutched Bella's hand for support. The warm sunlight cast a golden glow over the perfectly manicured lawn, but it did little to ease the chill that ran down her spine. She had been dreading this moment for what felt like an eternity, but she knew she had to do it. She had to face the people who had brought her to the brink of destruction. Bella, sensing Maya's trepidation, gave her hand a reassuring squeeze. "You got this, Maya," she whispered, her voice barely audible over the sound of the wind rustling through the trees. "I'm right here with you." Maya took a deep breath and rang the doorbell, the sound echoing through the stillness like a death knell. The door swung open a few moments later, and a stern-looking housekeeper stood before them, her expression a mask of indifference. "Can I help you?" the housekeeper asked, her voice as cold as the marble floor that stretched out behind her. Maya's eyes locked onto the housekeeper's, a spark of determination igniting within her. "I need to see Nick and Sabrina," she said, her voice firm, but barely above a whisper. "It's urgent." The housekeeper's expression didn't change, but she stepped aside, allowing them to enter. "Please, follow me," she said, leading them to the living room where Nick and Sabrina were lounging on a plush couch, sipping champagne and laughing like they were the only two people in the world. Maya's eyes narrowed as she took in the scene, a wave of anger and hurt washing over her like a tsunami. How could they be so carefree, so oblivious to the destruction they had caused? She felt Bella's hand tighten around hers, a gentle reminder that she wasn't alone. As they approached, Nick's eyes lit up with a charming smile, but it faltered when he took in Maya's determined expression. Sabrina, on the other hand, looked up with a mixture of curiosity and annoyance, her eyes flashing with a hint of malice. "Maya, what a surprise," Nick said, standing up, but his voice was laced with guilt. "We weren't expecting you." Maya's gaze locked onto Sabrina's, her eyes blazing with a fire that seemed to burn hotter with every passing moment. "I came to talk to you both about something," she said, her voice low and even, but with a hint of steel. "Something that I think you both need to hear." Sabrina raised an eyebrow, a look of boredom on her face, but Maya could see the faintest glimmer of curiosity in her eyes. "What is it?" she asked, her voice dripping with condescension. Maya took a deep breath, the words tumbling out of her like a confession. "Yesterday, I was so broken, so hurt by what you both did to me that I almost took my own life," she said, her voice cracking with emotion. "I almost ended it all because I felt like I had nothing left to live for." The room fell silent, the only sound the ticking of the clock on the mantle. Nick's face went white, and Sabrina's eyes widened in shock, but Maya could see the guilt lurking behind them, hiding in the shadows. Sabrina's mask slipped for a moment, and Maya saw a flicker of remorse in her eyes, but it was quickly replaced by a look of defensiveness. "Maya, I-" Sabrina started to say, but Maya cut her off. "No, Sabrina," Maya said, her voice firm. "You don't get to talk right now. You don't get to apologize or make excuses. You need to listen to me, to hear me out." Bella's hand tightened around hers, a gentle reminder that she was there, that she supported her. Maya took a deep breath and continued, her voice pouring out like a river. "You both need to know that your actions have consequences, that the things you do can hurt people in ways you can't even imagine. And I hope that one day, you can find it in your hearts to apologize, to make amends for what you've done to me." As Maya finished speaking, the room fell silent again, the only sound the heavy breathing of the three people in the room. Nick looked like he had been punched in the gut, and Sabrina's eyes had dropped to the floor, her shoulders slumped in defeat. For a moment, Maya felt a sense of satisfaction, of vindication, but it was quickly replaced by a wave of sadness. She knew that this was just the beginning, that the road to healing would be long and hard. But with Bella by her side, she felt like she could face anything.
