Resurrection at the Mansion

Part 11

Lady's eyes slowly opened, and she was met with the familiar sight of the car's interior. She was disoriented and confused, trying to remember how she got there. Panic set in as she realized she had no recollection of leaving the mansion. She must have fallen asleep, she thought, trying to shake off the lingering fogginess. Without hesitation, she pushed open the car door and stepped out onto the driveway. The grand facade of the mansion loomed before her, and she hastened her pace, a growing sense of unease settling in the pit of her stomach. As she pushed open the door and stepped inside, she called out, "Max?" The sound of her own voice was reassuring, and she followed the sound of his footsteps to the entrance hall. Max was pacing back and forth, looking puzzled and impatient. When he saw her, his expression changed to one of utter bewilderment. "Lady, where... how did you...?" he trailed off, his eyes scanning the space as if searching for an explanation. Lady was just as perplexed as Max. "I... I don't know," she admitted, shaking her head. "I think I must have fallen asleep in the car. I don't remember anything." Max's eyes narrowed, and he took a step closer to her. "But... you were just at the entrance. How did you get here?" Before Max could press for more answers, a server appeared, announcing that dinner was about to be served. The two of them made their way to the dining room, taking their seats at the table. As they waited for Blackwood to arrive, Max turned to her and asked, "How did you-" Their conversation was interrupted by the clatter of dishes being brought out. The servers moved efficiently, placing steaming plates of food in front of them. Lady's stomach growled in anticipation, and she reached for her glass of water. Just as they were about to begin eating, Blackwood walked into the room, a look of composure on his face. However, his eyes widened in shock as he took in Lady's presence. His gaze flicked from her to Max, and back again, his expression unreadable. "Lady," he said, his voice measured. "I... thought you were... indisposed." Lady's eyes locked onto Blackwood's, a sense of trepidation building inside her. She had a feeling that something was very wrong, and that her resurrection was not going to be met with joy or relief. Instead, it seemed to have sparked a mixture of confusion and alarm.
