"Reckoning in the Ruins"

Part 6

"Who did this to you?" Korra demanded, her voice low and urgent as she gazed at Asami's battered and bruised face. The soot and grime only added to the worry etched on her features. Asami's eyes dropped, and for a moment, Korra thought she saw a flicker of fear. But then, her friend's expression hardened, and she looked up, her eyes flashing with determination. "Amon," she spat, her voice venomous. "He was the one who activated the Eclipse Protocol. He's the one who's been using the Equalists to wreak havoc on the city." Korra's eyes widened in shock. Amon, the masked leader of the Equalists, had been a thorn in their side for months, but she had never suspected that he was capable of such destruction. "But why?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Asami's face twisted in a mixture of anger and sadness. "He wants to rid the world of bending," she said, her voice heavy with emotion. "He believes that bending is a curse, and that the only way to achieve true equality is to eliminate it altogether." Mako's face was grim. "He's gone too far this time," he growled. "We can't let him get away with this." Hiroshi nodded. "We need to stop him, now. Before it's too late." Korra's eyes locked onto Asami's, and she could see the pain and fear still lingering there. "We're going to get you out of here, Asami," she promised. "And then we're going to make sure that Amon pays for what he's done." Asami nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. "I know I can count on you, Korra," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. Together, the four of them stumbled forward, their senses on high alert as they navigated the treacherous corridors. The air grew hotter, the smoke thicker, and Korra's lungs burned with every breath, but she pressed on, driven by her determination to escape the facility and stop Amon's sinister plans. As they turned a corner, they were met with a sight that made Korra's heart sink. The corridor ahead was blocked by a massive metal door, and on the other side of it, they could hear the sound of machinery whirring to life. The Eclipse Protocol's countdown timer was ticking away, and they were running out of time. "We need to find another way," Hiroshi shouted, his voice barely audible over the roar of the machinery. Korra's eyes locked onto Mako's, and she knew that they had to act fast. The facility was running out of time, and so were they.
