**Chapter 15: The Eyes in the Dark**
Part 15
As I gazed at the camera, a chill ran down my spine. I felt like I'd been punched in the gut, my breath catching in my throat. Maya's warm smile and gentle demeanor now seemed like a ruse, a clever disguise for something more sinister. I tried to process what I was seeing, my mind racing with questions. Who was behind the camera? Were they watching us right now? And what did they want? I glanced around the room, trying to gauge everyone's reaction. Dr. Lee and the nurse seemed oblivious, still focused on Tokyo, who was now fast asleep. Maya, however, caught my eye, her expression frozen in a mixture of surprise and concern. For a moment, we locked gazes, and I could see the faintest glimmer of fear in her eyes. I took a step forward, my voice low and even. "Maya, what's going on? What's with the camera?" I asked, trying to keep my tone neutral. Maya's eyes darted to the camera, and for a moment, I thought I saw a flash of guilt. But then, her expression smoothed out, and she smiled again, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "Oh, that old thing? It's just a security camera. I like to keep an eye on things around here, especially at night." I raised an eyebrow, skeptical. "At night? But we're in the middle of nowhere. Who would be watching us?" Maya shrugged, her shoulders barely rising off the couch. "You never know. Better safe than sorry, right?" Dr. Lee looked up, her eyes narrowing. "Maya, I think we need to discuss this. We can't have unknown cameras watching us, especially not when we're trying to keep Tokyo safe." Maya nodded, her smile faltering for a moment. "Of course, of course. I'll disable it. I just...I didn't mean to alarm you." As Maya got up to disable the camera, I couldn't shake the feeling that she was hiding something. I watched her, trying to read her body language, but she seemed genuinely concerned. Still, I couldn't help but wonder if we were in more danger than we thought. The nurse spoke up, her voice soft. "Maybe we should get some rest? We've had a long day, and Tokyo needs to recover." Dr. Lee nodded, her eyes still on Maya. "Yes, let's get some rest. But we'll discuss this further in the morning. And Maya?" "Yes?" "We need to know everything about this cabin and your involvement in this situation. No more secrets." Maya's eyes dropped, and for a moment, I thought I saw a glimmer of something – fear, maybe, or regret. But then, she nodded, her smile returning, and I wondered if I'd just imagined it. As we settled in for the night, I couldn't shake the feeling that we were walking into a trap, and that the eyes in the dark were still watching, waiting for their chance to strike.
