"Disguised and Unveiled"

Part 7

As I stepped into the corridor, I quickly scanned my surroundings, taking in the layout of the castle and the location of the nearest stairs and doorways. I knew I needed to blend in, and the best way to do that was to change my attire. I spotted a laundry cart parked against a nearby wall, a large pile of clean linens and servant's uniforms strewn haphazardly on top. Without hesitation, I darted over to the cart and rummaged through the pile, pulling out a simple servant's uniform. I quickly changed into the uniform, adjusting the cap and apron to fit my frame. The clothes were a bit loose, but they would have to do. I checked my reflection in a nearby window and barely recognized myself. The servant's uniform was a simple but effective disguise, and I felt a surge of confidence knowing I could now move freely through the castle. I set off down the corridor, my footsteps light and purposeful. As I turned a corner, I heard the faintest whisper of humming. My heart skipped a beat as I recognized the tune - it was a song Elara used to sing to Mari when they were children. I followed the sound, my ears straining to pinpoint its source. The humming grew louder, and I caught snippets of a soft, melodious voice. "Hush little one, don't you cry..." Elara's voice. My heart racing, I moved swiftly and quietly, trying not to alert anyone to my presence. As I turned a corner, I spotted a door slightly ajar. The humming was coming from within. I pushed the door open, and a warm golden light spilled out into the corridor. I peered inside, and my eyes landed on a figure sitting in a chair, her back to me. Elara. My heart leapt with joy and relief. She was here, and she was alive. I took a step forward, my mouth opening to call out to her, but something held me back. I hesitated, unsure if I should reveal myself just yet. What if she was being watched, or guarded? I decided to observe from a distance, watching as Elara continued to hum and rock gently back and forth. She seemed lost in thought, her eyes closed, and a look of deep concentration on her face. I remained frozen, unsure of what to do next, but grateful to have found her at last.
