A Day of Unexpected Calm
Part 7
Theo sat quietly at Ashley's feet, engrossed in the toy cars and blocks she had brought for him to play with. Ashley was amazed at how well he was behaving, considering it was his first time in an office. She had been worried that he would get restless and start crying, but so far, he seemed completely content. As the day went on, Ashley's coworkers began to drop by her desk to say hello to Theo. They were all impressed by how well-behaved he was, and they couldn't help but coo over his adorable face and curious eyes. Theo, sensing the attention, began to smile and wave at everyone who came near. Ashley was grateful for the distraction, as it allowed her to focus on her work without worrying about Theo. She was able to make phone calls, respond to emails, and even finish a few reports without any interruptions. It was a productive day, and Ashley was thrilled. At lunchtime, Ashley pulled out a sandwich and some fruit for herself, and a juice box and a few crackers for Theo. They sat together at her desk, eating and chatting quietly. Theo seemed to enjoy his snack, and Ashley was relieved that he was eating well. As the afternoon wore on, Ashley began to feel a sense of confidence. Maybe, just maybe, this whole "taking Theo to work" thing would actually work out. She was able to balance her job and her parenting responsibilities, and Theo seemed to be enjoying himself. Mrs. Patel stopped by Ashley's desk a few times to check in on them, and each time, she was impressed by how well-behaved Theo was. "You're a natural, Ashley," she said with a smile. "I think this might just work out after all." Ashley smiled, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. She knew she still had a lot to figure out, but for now, she was just happy to have a solution that worked. As the day drew to a close, Ashley gathered up her things and stood up, Theo by her side. "Time to go home, buddy," she said, scooping up Theo in her arms. Theo looked up at her with big, sleepy eyes, and Ashley knew he was ready for a nap. She smiled, feeling grateful for the unexpected calm of the day. Maybe, just maybe, this was the start of a beautiful routine.
