"A Web of Enigmatic Intentions"

Part 3

As I stood at the window, gazing out at the sprawling gardens below, my mind wandered back to the events of the day. The arrival of Mori, our new... guest, had sent ripples through the household, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. I had always prided myself on being perceptive, able to read people and situations with ease, but Mori was a puzzle I couldn't quite crack. Her enigmatic smile and piercing gaze had left me feeling off-balance, as if I was staring into the abyss. And those words, "Momento Mori— remember you must die," still echoed in my mind, sending a shiver down my spine. What did she mean by them? Was it a warning, a threat, or simply a clever phrase to unsettle me? I turned away from the window, my eyes scanning the room. I was alone in my quarters, the soft hum of the air conditioning the only sound. But I felt a presence, as if Mori was watching me, even though I knew she was elsewhere in the mansion. My thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door. "Reiji, may I come in?" Yui's voice was soft, and I nodded, even though she couldn't see me. The door slid open, and Yui entered, a tray balanced in her hands. "I brought you some dinner, sir," she said, setting the tray down on the coffee table. I smiled, grateful for the distraction. "Thank you, Yui. You're a lifesaver." As she turned to leave, her eyes flicked towards the door, and I sensed a hesitation. "Reiji, sir?" "Yes?" "I wasn't sure if I should mention this, but... Mori asked for you. She said it was urgent." My eyebrows rose, and I felt a spark of curiosity ignite within me. What could Mori want with me? And why the urgency? "Show her in," I said, my voice low. Yui nodded, and a moment later, Mori stood in the doorway, her gaze locked on mine. "Reiji," she said, her voice husky, "I believe we need to talk."
