The Darkness Within

Part 47

Oh fuck, you seriously hope it's a kind of quirk you can turn off- you don't want to be stuck as some slimy Venom forever. And it still doesn't explain how you disappeared: what connection is there between your flesh becoming tar and them not being able to see you? As I stood there, or rather, as I existed there, I couldn't help but think about the horrifying transformation that had taken place within me. My body had turned into a tar-like substance, and I was now trapped inside my own shadow. The thought sent shivers down my spine, and I felt a sense of dread wash over me. "Hey!" Inaba shouts, pointing at me. "Look at that! Her shadow is still there!" I froze, unsure of what to do next. My shadow, or rather, my tar-like body, seemed to be visible to them, but not my actual self. "... Woah, it's true," Tsubasa whispers, "That's- that's a shadow, but- there's no body?" I let out a choked laugh, the sound barely audible. I was the shadow. I looked at my hands, dripping with the tar-like substance, as they rested over my folded knees. I had entered inside my shadow, a place where I could hide, but not escape. "You idiots," Bakugou scoffs, "The ground is probably just blackened because I let an explosion off there." But Inaba hesitates, "Doesn't it have a human shape? And it doesn't look like dirt..." I couldn't help but feel a sense of morbid curiosity. What would happen to me now? Was I stuck in this tar-like state forever? And what about my friends? Could they see me? Could they hear me? "Ohi, stupid nerd!" Bakugou barks, turning towards Izuku. The boy shrinks under his glare. "Where the hell has she gone? Uh? Do you think it's funny looking down on me like this?!" Izuku stutters something, his voice so small I barely hear him, but it's probably not the answer Bakugou was looking for since he bares viciously his teeth.
