"A Shift in Perspective"

Part 264

"Why should I tell you?" I asked, my voice laced with frustration as I glared at Shigaraki. I felt like I was banging my head against a wall, trying to get through to him. "Look, I get it. People right now define Quirk by hero Quirks and villain Quirks, and we shouldn’t do that. We shouldn’t treat people like trash just because they have Quirks that are considered so-called villain Quirks." Shigaraki raised an eyebrow, his expression skeptical. "Go on," he said, his voice dripping with condescension. I took a deep breath, trying to keep my cool. "But killing people isn't going to help at all. It's going to make it worse!" I exclaimed, my voice rising in urgency. "We're already so divided, so quick to judge and condemn anyone who doesn't fit into our narrow definition of what it means to be a hero. And you're just fueling that fire, Shigaraki. You're making it worse." Shigaraki leaned back in his chair, a thoughtful expression on his face. "I'm not interested in fueling the fire, Vesper," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "I'm interested in changing the game. And if that means burning down the old order, then so be it." I shook my head, feeling a sense of despair wash over me. "You're not listening to me," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "I'm not just talking about your plan, I'm talking about the impact it's going to have on people. On innocent people who are just trying to live their lives." Shigaraki's expression didn't change, but I saw a flicker of something in his eyes. A glimmer of understanding, perhaps. But it was gone before I could grasp it. "I'm listening, Vesper," he said, his voice neutral. "But I'm not sure I agree with you." I sighed, feeling a sense of frustration and helplessness. I knew I wasn't going to get through to him, not like this. But I had to try. "Can't you see that we're not so different, you and I?" I asked, my voice laced with desperation. "We're both trying to make a difference, to leave the world a better place than we found it. But we're going about it in such different ways." Shigaraki's expression softened, just for a moment. And in that moment, I saw a glimmer of hope. Maybe, just maybe, I could reach him after all.
