"Confinement and Desperation"
Part 13
As Ashley sat on the bed, she couldn't help but think about how far she had fallen. Twenty weeks had passed since Kody's revelation, and her life had become a never-ending nightmare. The small box room he had confined her to was a constant reminder of her loss of freedom. The walls were a dull gray, and the air was stale and musty. A single, flickering light bulb hung from the ceiling, casting eerie shadows around the room. Ashley's mind wandered back to the day Kody had told her she was pregnant with twins. The news had been like a punch to the gut, leaving her breathless and reeling. She had tried to process it, to come to terms with the fact that she was carrying two tiny lives inside her, but it was hard to think about anything except the desperation that had taken hold of her. As she looked down at her swollen belly, Ashley felt a mix of emotions. She was scared, anxious, and overwhelmed, but at the same time, she couldn't help but feel a tiny spark of love for the two tiny humans growing inside her. It was a love that she dare not acknowledge, a love that she couldn't express, not even to herself. The door creaked open, and Kody stood in the doorway, a tray of food in his hands. "Time for lunch, Ashley," he said, his voice dripping with condescension. "I've brought you some soup and a sandwich." Ashley's stomach churned at the sight of the food. She hadn't been feeling well lately, and the smell of the soup was making her feel queasy. "I don't want it," she said, trying to sound defiant. Kody's expression darkened, and he took a step closer to her. "You'll eat what I give you, Ashley," he said, his voice low and menacing. "You'll do as you're told, or there will be consequences." Ashley felt a shiver run down her spine as she looked at Kody. She knew that she had no choice but to comply, so she took the tray from him and set it down on the bedside table. The food looked unappetizing, but she knew that she had to eat it. As Kody turned to leave, Ashley called out to him. "What about the babies?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Kody stopped in his tracks and turned to face her. "The babies will be taken care of," he said, his expression cold and detached. "You'll give birth to them, and then they'll be mine." Ashley felt a wave of despair wash over her. She knew that she was powerless to stop Kody, that she was trapped in this nightmare, and that her babies were doomed. The thought was almost too much to bear, and Ashley felt herself slipping under the surface, losing herself in the darkness that had consumed her.
