Chapter 52: A Fleeting Sense of Sanity
Part 51
Oikawa woke up again, this time with a start, but as he looked around his room, he couldn't shake the feeling that something had been bothering him the night before. He rubbed his eyes, trying to clear the haze of sleep, but his mind felt refreshingly clear. The nightmare was just that - a nightmare. He laughed to himself, chiding his own foolish imagination. As he swung his legs over the side of the bed, he noticed that the room was quiet and still. The city outside was bustling, but his dorm room was a tranquil oasis. He stood up, stretching his arms over his head, and began to get ready for the day. Meanwhile, in another part of the dorm, Kageyama was having a very different morning. He woke up with a start, his eyes scanning the room frantically. He was convinced he saw something moving out of the corner of his eye. He rubbed his temples, trying to shake off the feeling of unease. "Kageyama, what's wrong?" someone asked from outside his room. It was Hinata, his teammate and friend. Kageyama spun around, his eyes scanning the room. "Nothing," he muttered. "Just...just a dream." Hinata looked at him skeptically. "You okay, man? You look a bit pale." Kageyama forced a smile. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just a bit...tired." But as he turned back to his bed, he could have sworn he saw a shadowy figure lurking in the corner of his room. He spun around, but there was no one there. He shook his head, telling himself he was just being paranoid. Throughout the day, Kageyama found himself glancing around nervously, convinced that he saw things out of the corner of his eye. But every time he turned to look, there was no one there. He began to question his own sanity. At one point, while Hinata and Kageyama were doing a warm-up exercise on the court, Kageyama suddenly lunged forward, grabbing at thin air. Hinata looked at him in confusion. "What's wrong, Kageyama?" he asked. Kageyama shook his head, trying to clear the cobwebs. "Nothing," he muttered. "I just...thought I saw something." Hinata raised an eyebrow. "You okay, man? You look a bit spooked." Kageyama nodded, trying to play it off. But as the day went on, he couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. He kept seeing things that weren't there - a fleeting shadow, a glimpse of movement out of the corner of his eye. As he walked back to his room, he could have sworn he saw a figure standing in the doorway. He spun around, but there was no one there. He let out a frustrated sigh, wondering if he was losing his mind. Oikawa, on the other hand, was having a completely normal day. He went to class, participated in discussions, and even managed to get a few hours of studying done. It wasn't until he was walking back to his dorm that he bumped into Kageyama, who looked like he had seen a ghost. "Kageyama, what's wrong?" Oikawa asked, concern etched on his face. Kageyama shook his head, trying to clear the cobwebs. "Nothing," he muttered. "Just...seeing things." Oikawa raised an eyebrow. "Seeing things?" Kageyama nodded. "Yeah. I don't know, it's just...I keep thinking I see stuff, but there's nothing there." Oikawa's expression softened. "You okay, man? You look a bit spooked." Kageyama nodded, trying to play it off. But as they parted ways, Oikawa couldn't help but wonder if Kageyama was okay. There was something in his eyes that didn't quite add up. As the day went on, Kageyama found himself becoming increasingly withdrawn. He couldn't shake the feeling that something was watching him, waiting for him to let his guard down. And Oikawa, blissfully unaware of the turmoil that had been brewing in Kageyama's mind, went about his day with a sense of normalcy that he hadn't felt in a long time.
