"A New Set of Worries"
Part 37
The doctor, a kind-faced woman with a warm smile, came into the exam room and closed the door behind her. "Good morning, Ashley," she said, reviewing the chart in her hand. "How are you feeling today?" Ashley hesitated, unsure of how to answer. She didn't want to worry the doctor, but she couldn't shake off the feeling that something was wrong. "I'm a little anxious, I guess," she said finally. "I've been feeling off all morning." The doctor nodded sympathetically. "Okay, well, let's take a look at everything and see what's going on." She began to ask Ashley a series of questions, taking her blood pressure and weight, and then moved on to the ultrasound. As the doctor worked, Ashley couldn't help but feel a sense of trepidation. She had been so looking forward to this appointment, but now she was dreading it. What if something was wrong with the baby? The doctor finished the ultrasound and smiled at Ashley. "Everything looks great," she said. "The baby is healthy and growing right on schedule." Ashley felt a wave of relief wash over her, but it was short-lived. The doctor's expression turned serious, and she hesitated before speaking. "There's just one thing," she said. "Your blood work came back a little abnormal. We're going to need to run some more tests to see what's going on." Ashley's heart sank. What did the doctor mean by "abnormal"? Was it something serious? She felt a sense of panic rising up inside her. "What kind of tests?" she asked, trying to keep her voice steady. "We'll need to do some more blood work, and possibly some other tests to rule out a few things," the doctor said. "But don't worry, it's probably nothing. We just need to be cautious." Ashley nodded, trying to process what the doctor was saying. She felt like she was in a whirlwind of emotions, swinging from relief to fear and back again. As the doctor finished up the appointment and Ashley was getting ready to leave, she couldn't shake off the feeling that her life was about to get a lot more complicated. She had been worried about her pregnancy, but she had never expected this. As she left the office, Ashley felt a sense of uncertainty wash over her. What was going on with her body? And what did it mean for her baby? She pulled out her phone and dialed Alev's number, her hands shaking as she waited for him to answer. "Hey, how did it go?" he asked, his voice warm and reassuring. Ashley took a deep breath and tried to summarize the doctor's words. "The baby is fine," she said. "But the doctor wants to run some more tests. She said my blood work came back abnormal." There was a pause on the other end of the line, and Ashley could almost hear Alev's mind racing. "Okay, we'll get through this," he said finally. "We'll figure out what's going on and make sure everything is okay." Ashley felt a lump form in her throat as she listened to Alev's words. She knew he was trying to reassure her, but she couldn't shake off the feeling that something was wrong. As she walked back to her car, Ashley felt a sense of dread growing inside her. She had so many questions, and no answers. All she could do was wait and see what the future held.
