"Uncertainty and Fear"

Part 30

Ashley took a deep breath and nodded, trying to mentally prepare herself for the internal exam. Dr. Patel's expression was kind and reassuring, but she couldn't shake off the feeling of apprehension that had been building up inside her. Dr. Patel gently began the exam, his hands moving with a gentle yet firm touch. Ashley winced slightly as he did it, a brief flash of discomfort crossing her face. Dr. Patel quickly finished the exam, his expression turning somber as he removed his gloves. Ashley looked up at Dominic, who was watching her with concern etched on his face. "What's wrong?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Dominic's eyes locked onto hers, his expression hesitant. "What did you want to tell us, Dr. Patel?" he asked, his voice low and even. Dr. Patel cleared his throat, his eyes darting between Ashley and Dominic. "Well, the exam...it didn't quite go as expected. I'm going to be honest with you, there are some concerns about the placenta and the baby's position." Ashley's heart skipped a beat as she processed the information. She felt a surge of fear and anxiety, her mind racing with worst-case scenarios. "Is our baby okay?" Ashley asked, her voice trembling. Dominic's hand tightened around hers, his eyes never leaving hers. He was holding her stomach with his other hand, his touch a gentle reassurance. "We need to run some more tests, but...there's a possibility that the baby might be...in distress," Dr. Patel said, his words hanging in the air like a challenge. Ashley's eyes widened in alarm as she looked at Dominic, her heart racing with fear. "What does that mean?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Dominic's face was set in a determined expression, his eyes burning with a fierce love and protectiveness. "We'll get through this, Ash. We'll get through this together."
