Chapter 54: Threads of Revelation

Part 53

"Wait, how do you know Oslo? He's my shadow?" I asked, a sudden jolt of curiosity interrupting my thoughts. Dabi's eyes narrowed slightly, and for a moment, I thought I saw a flicker of surprise in his expression. "I know Oslo because I've been watching him," he said, his voice low and measured. "He's a skilled operative, and I've had... dealings with him in the past." I frowned, my mind racing with questions. "What kind of dealings?" I pressed, my voice firm. Dabi's expression turned guarded, and he hesitated for a moment before responding. "Let's just say that Oslo and I have a history," he said, his voice vague. "A history that I prefer to keep private." I studied Dabi's face, searching for any hidden clues. There was something he wasn't telling me, something that he was keeping hidden behind his enigmatic smile. "You're not telling me everything, are you?" I asked, my voice laced with skepticism. Dabi's gaze locked onto mine, and for a moment, I felt like he was searching for something within me. "I'm telling you what you need to know," he said, his voice dry. "The rest is... complicated." I raised an eyebrow, intrigued by Dabi's words. Complicated was a word that seemed to be synonymous with Dabi's life, and I had a feeling that there was more to his story than he was letting on. "Oslo is my shadow," I said, my voice firm. "He's the one person who's supposed to have my back." Dabi's expression turned thoughtful, and he nodded slowly. "I understand," he said. "But in a world like ours, allegiances are fleeting, and shadows can be... treacherous." I felt a shiver run down my spine as Dabi's words echoed in my mind. Was Oslo truly on my side, or was he playing a double game? And what did Dabi know that he wasn't telling me? "What's the plan, then?" I asked, pushing the thoughts aside. I needed to focus on the task at hand. Dabi's eyes gleamed with a hint of excitement. "We need to get to the extraction point before The Flame of Destruction does," he said, his voice low and urgent. "My contact is waiting for us, and we need to move fast." I nodded, my heart pounding in my chest. I was about to embark on a journey into the unknown, with a man who was shrouded in mystery and deception. But I had no choice. I had to trust Dabi, and I had to save Oslo.
