Unraveling the Phoenix Group

Part 7

The question hung in the air, echoing off the walls of the deserted corridor as Korra turned to Dr. Zhang, her eyes demanding answers. "What do they have to do with Asami?" she pressed, her voice firm but controlled. Dr. Zhang shifted uncomfortably, his eyes darting between the group before settling on the floor. "Asami was recruited by the Phoenix Group a few months before she disappeared," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "They were interested in her work on advanced technology, and she was working closely with their researchers." Mako's brow furrowed. "What kind of research was she doing with them?" he asked, his curiosity piqued. Dr. Zhang hesitated, as if choosing his words carefully. "From what I understand, Asami was working on a project codenamed 'Eclipse.' It was supposed to be a breakthrough technology, one that could change the course of human history." Emily's eyes widened. "What kind of technology?" she asked, her voice filled with excitement. Dr. Zhang shook his head. "I'm not entirely sure. Asami was very secretive about her work, even with me. But I do know that the Phoenix Group was heavily invested in the project, and they were pushing Asami to make progress quickly." Korra's mind was racing. The Phoenix Group, a powerful corporation with ties to the government, was involved in Asami's research. What did they want to achieve with this Eclipse project? And what had happened to Asami? "We need to find out more about the Eclipse project," Korra said, her eyes locking onto her friends. "We need to know what Asami was working on, and what the Phoenix Group's goals are." Mako nodded. "I can try to dig up some information on the Phoenix Group's research and development," he said. "See if I can find any connections to Asami's work." Emily pulled out her comms device. "I'll see if I can find any news articles or reports on the Eclipse project," she said. Korra turned to Dr. Zhang. "And I think it's time we had a talk with your superiors, don't you?" she said, a hint of determination in her voice. Dr. Zhang's eyes widened, and he nodded hastily. "Yes, of course. I'll arrange a meeting with the research facility's director. He may be able to provide more information on the Eclipse project and Asami's involvement with the Phoenix Group." As they began to make plans, Korra couldn't shake the feeling that they were getting close to something. The Phoenix Group, the Eclipse project, and Asami's disappearance were all connected, and she was determined to unravel the threads of the mystery.
