Uncovering the Truth
Part 4
Korra paused, her eyes locked onto Dr. Zhang's, as the weight of his words sank in. Then, a spark of concern and anger ignited within her. Her voice low and even, she spoke each word with deliberate emphasis. “Where. Is. She?” Dr. Zhang's eyes darted back and forth, as if searching for an escape from the question. "I-I don't know," he stammered. "Asami didn't show up for her scheduled meetings after yesterday's discussion. I've tried calling her, but her comms device isn't responding." Mako's face darkened with worry. "What do you mean by 'restricted areas' and 'experimental projects'?" he asked, his voice firm. Dr. Zhang hesitated, glancing around the lab as if fearful of being overheard. "I'm not authorized to disclose that information," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "But I can show you where Asami was working. Maybe you'll find something that... that will help you understand what's going on." Korra's anger simmered just below the surface, her grip on her staff tightening. She could feel her Avatar energy stirring, responding to her emotions. "Lead the way," she said, her voice cold and commanding. Dr. Zhang nodded, his eyes wide with a mix of fear and concern. He led them to a secure door on the far side of the lab, adorned with warning signs and biohazard symbols. "This is one of the areas Asami was investigating," he said, his hand hovering over the access panel. Mako's eyes narrowed. "What's behind this door?" Dr. Zhang's expression turned grave. "A project codenamed 'Eclipse.' It's... highly classified. I don't know what Asami was doing, but I suspect she may have been trying to uncover something." Korra's eyes flashed with determination. "Open it," she said, her voice firm. Dr. Zhang hesitated, his hand trembling over the access panel. "I'm not sure that's a good idea," he said, his voice laced with warning. Korra's gaze turned icy. "Open. The. Door."
